My friend is trying to talk me into running with her every morning. Evidently, she is not aware of my strict non-physical fitness policy. I have a hard and fast rule when it comes to running: fuggedaboudit! I have sworn off running unless there is some incentive involved, for example, avoiding molten lava.

Whose Body Is It Anyway?

My daughters are all involved in gymnastics. This serves several purposes. It teaches them discipline and the correlation between practice and improvement. It gives them an outlet for all their youthful energies. It also serves to keep our bank account from overflowing, as cartwheels times three do not come cheap. Yet beyond all the kids tumbling in class and the cash tumbling out of my wallet, their gymnastic endeavors have served to highlight one other very lamentable thing: My aging body.

Ahhhh, a New Year, a new chance to start, stop or improve all manner of habits, regimens and attitudes. A time when the people of the world are aglow with hope, perseverance and resolve. Yes, resolve, as in resolutions. Unfortunately we tend to craft these lofty goals while under the influence of too much food, too many friends and in an atmosphere of intoxicated (both literally and figuratively) jubilation.

Admiring The Cirque du Soleil

The human body is a wondrous thing, don’t you think? Capable of creating and bringing forth life, healing itself when injured, leaking on schedule each month (ok, maybe that is more of a pain than a wonder), even capable of producing odors one normally would only associate with an exotic cheese shop. Truly, our bodies are remarkable and multifaceted, containing potential many of us will never begin to tap into.
