Breastfeeding is a wonderful way to bring you and your child together, but for some mothers, leakage can be an embarrassing problem that affects this joyful experience. Find out how one mother conquered this common problem with confidence and security, enabling her to lead a healthy, active lifestyle both in and outside the home
A New Mother’s Success Story
It was Halloween, a holiday eagerly anticipated by my 19-month old daughter. It was also four days after the birth of my second child.
I was determined to take my fairy princess out to trick-or-treat in our neighborhood that evening. I timed everything carefully, nursing my newborn baby girl at 5 p.m. to ensure she would be fed before we left. Unfortunately and despite all the planning, she fell asleep at my breast without finishing a full feeding. I reluctantly handed her to my mother and my eldest daughter and I were off on our special adventure. No sooner had I left the house then I began to feel the infamous trickle of breast milk down my shirt. In a matter of seconds, my milk had leaked through my nursing pads and I was forced to turn around and head home for a new shirt.
To my daughter’s great dismay, that trip home was not the last one I had to make that evening. I spent precious trick-or-treating minutes changing my nursing pads, soaking bra and milk-stained shirt. Within two hours, I changed my clothing three more times – making the trip around our cozy neighborhood into a long, tiring journey. Never knowing when my milk would leak made me feel both uncomfortable and unable to give my daughter the undivided attention she deserved that evening.
It was this experience that made me decide to try something new to help cope with breast leakage. A family friend had recently invented a new product, which promised to prevent leakage more effectively than nursing pads. I was skeptical at first. Would it really work better, feel comfortable and be safe? I had leaked the entire way through breastfeeding my first daughter, but now with two children and added responsibilities outside of the home, I didn’t see how I could live through nine months of leaking through my clothing. I was however, determined to keep up my active lifestyle and was willing to try ANYTHING that would work. I mailed away for the product called blis, the breast leakage inhibitor system.
From the first day I put the soft disc-like inserts over the cotton pads in my bra (so easy!), my lifestyle changed. Instantly I stopped leaking; I was comfortable and not embarrassed to go out in public! For the next eight months, I used blis daily. I was able to control my leakage and enjoy a life filled with the challenges of two children under the age of two! This product was not only effective, it was safe. I continued to experience “let-down” and a healthy milk supply while using blis and was never bothered with plugged ducts, mastitis or Thrush.
I soon became involved in touting blis to friends and neighbors. My belief in the product was so strong that I joined the company as its marketing director. My job is to deliver the blis message to healthcare professionals everywhere who in turn, can educate new moms about blis and how it can help prolong the breastfeeding experience (giving both baby and mom the incredible health benefits derived from breastfeeding).
Breastfeeding is a wonderful way to bring you and your child together. I hope that this story will help others understand that breastfeeding can be done with confidence and security, enabling moms to lead a healthy, active lifestyle both in and outside the home.
