Mommy - are we safe? Children and Safety In Our Country Print E-mail
Children may be asking if we are safe. While it's OK to talk about it, try to keep the smaller children away from too much TV reporting of our current crisis.

The Question?

Children may be asking if we are safe. While it's OK to talk about it, try to keep the smaller children away from too much TV reporting of our current crisis. Monitor the older ones as well as some of the pictures and language can be quite graphic.

What will help?

Try to stay on a regular schedule but do not hide your own feelings. Why? Shielding children from disasters can cause anxiety as they see through our made up stories. It's OK to say you are sad and depending on their age, explain to them why. Be honest and share some of your feelings but there's no need to go overboard with younger children. Pray with your children and don't forget to offer a hug.

Who will remember our elderly?

We should all reach out to our senior citizens. They need to talk and get a hug just as much as anyone else. Many are lonely and just as afraid as others are.

What about me?

As we reflect on the horrific deposits of pain flooding our precious country, please don't forget to assure your family members that the danger and damage has been isolated and we are as safe as possible. Maybe this is a time to reflect on your own life? Talk and talk some more. Reach out to those who care and strive to invite conversations between those that may not. As long as we continue to believe in the American way and join together in prayer providing a strong unified front, our children will feel safe. Please remember the families and their loved ones and to support the president and our nation. Above all else, never under estimate the power of prayer and God Bless America.

The Family, Discipline and Positive Approaches

It doesn't matter how busy you are, Don't let the morning get very far.

Take a few minutes to set your tone and pace, Ask the good Lord to bless your family with His grace.

He already knows the things that fill you with despair, and He's waiting for you to share.

"Dear God, give me the patience needed this day, to guide and lead me in Your way. In everything I say and do, please make me more like you.

Help me with my family challenges and daily grief -- but most of all, please strengthen my belief.

Amen."
