I was just wondering when and where your child does his/her homework. How much help do they need from you? Do you check their work when they are finished?

Also, at what age do you think a child should be responsible for getting their own homework done without being supervised by a parent?

It takes Haley so long to get her load of homework done that we space it out over the afternoon and evening. I think it is important for her to get playtime too and if I make her do all her homework before dinner than there is no time to go outside. If I have her do all of it after dinner than there is no time for a bath or TV.

Most days she has a math worksheet, a page or two out of her spelling book, and 20 minutes of reading, plus any studying for tests that she needs to do.

At 3:45 when she gets home I have her do her math worksheet and that takes her about 30 min with minimal help. I do check it over when she is done.

After dinner at about 6:30 DH helps her with understanding the instructions for her spelling homework. It usually takes her about an hour to complete it and she frequently needs help. We check over her work when she is finished and have her correct any inverted letters and punctuation or capitalization problems.

At 9:00 she does her reading before bed and then we write it down in her folder.

We know about 1 week in advance if she is going to have a test so we don't do any formal studying. Instead DH and I randomly ask her questions through out the week until we think she has it all down.

My kids do it after getting something to drink. And they have to sit at the kitchen table. With her, she was doing it alone in kindergarten. Brandon is fine now, once I get him to do it.
