I just realized that all of the references on my resume are not valid.

The last time I interviewed for anything was 6 years ago. So, my references are FIL, my boss from when I was in college, my boss for my first two real jobs, and a former pastor.

Well, FIL is now my relative, so that won’t work. My boss when I was in college retired and moved to another city. The next two both moved to other jobs and I don’t have contact information for them. My former pastor would still be a reference, but I haven’t seen him in years.

Here is the thing. I know where one of my former bosses is working. I can get his contact information, because I have his email address. Should I email him and tell him I’m applying for a different job and ask if it’s OK if I use him as a reference?
