Stye question

Alisha has a stye and it is causing problems there is a head on it. What can I do? I have tried the heating a warm washcloth in the microwave and having her put the wascloth on it. I bought medicine over the counter that is called Stye ointment and that is not helping. You think it would since it cost $8.00 and it is a little tube. LOL What can I do girls?

Annie,
Just keep up with the warm compresses 5-6 times a day. Warm tap water should do it.... microwaving the washcloth could cause uneven hot spots in the cloth which could burn skin. Let it come to a head & pop by itself. The OTC ointment should work -- if not it may work better after the stye has popped itself. If it does not improve, you may need to see your MD for an antibiotic ointment, as styes usually originate from staphlococcus aureus. Most times, home treatment works. Sometimes they are stubborn & need that antibiotic ointment.

Bottom line: Keep up with the tap water warm compresses, DO NOT POP IT -- let it pop on its own, keep using the OTC ointment. Use GOOD handwashing techniques (so it doesn't spread to her other eye) and don't reuse washcloths.... use a fresh one each time. If it doesn't go away or if there are changes in her vision, consult your MD or opthamologist.

Good luck girls!

Thanks Kim and the Stye medicine did work it took a day but it did. Never thought about uneven heat on the washcloth but like a bottle it to can be warmed up unevenly. Thanks I will remember that. Yes of course we changed the washcloth many times. I apperciate you getting back to me.

Jewel
I have another question about styes since we are on the subject. My oldest son and I always seem to be getting styes, is this bad, should we be worried? They go away on there own, sometimes they need medicine and sometimes I just let them work themselves out. ( Well not Devins he gets to unpatient and wants it to be gone yesterday and bothers with it to much.) Is there anything we can do or is this just a way of life for us?

Julie.... Once someone starts getting styes, he or she is more susceptable to them for the rest of his/her life. It's really nothing to worry about, unless there is a change in vision.

On the other hand.... they can really "cramp one's style..." (Poor Devin!! )

Annie... no problem, hon! I hope Alisha's feeling better!

She is and I have to say when I was a young girl I always had pink eye or styes and I still get styes too, not as often as then but once in awhile.
