Lump question!!!

Just about a month ago I was getting out of the Hospital from having a kidney infection. I had an IV in from Friday morning till Monday. On Monday the IV moved and when they went to put the antibiotics in my arm started getting puffy and hot. They then took the IV out and started a different one.

Okay it's a month later now and I was rubbing my arm and I felt this lump under my sweater. I pull it up and there is a little discoloration like yellow bruise over it. size of a oval quarter is the bruise. The size of the hard lump is 3/4 of an inch.

What do you ladies think? Should I call the doctor? Has anyone else had this before? I hope maybe someone has an answer...

Jan,

Sounds to me like your IV infiltrated. Happens sometimes. I would put some warm compresses on it. (Sometimes cold feels better -- and that's OK, too.) If it doesn't get better, I would discuss it with your MD & see what he/she says. I would think that it would be getting better by now....

When my arm was swelling up in the hospital they put warm compresses on it. You think I should do that now??? It doesn't bother me but there is a little tingle sensation in there. How long should I let it go? I was thinking of calling tomarrow...

Thanks Kim for getting back to me so quick!!!

You can put compresses on it, if it makes it feel better. You could check in with your MD's office just to be sure. It should be going down a bit by now... kinda healing like a bruise does.. little by little, but may be a little sore.

Good luck!
