Cody is almost 9 months old and has never owned a pair of shoes. Why? His feet are so wide I can't find anything to fit. Someone suggested that I go to Walmart because they carry lots of wide shoes for baby.

I bought a pair of leather tennis shoes, in a wide size, that seemed pretty flexible as opposed to being a stiff shoe with no give.

Well, I still can't get his foot into it. It's plenty long -- maybe even too much so, but his foot is as wide as the entire shoe. Can't even get his foot in.

Is there anything else I can do? I hate the thought of buying a $30 pair of shoes that will be too small next month, but what choice do I have? Do they even make shoes any wider than a wide?

He'll be walking soon and I hate the thought of him not having any shoes!

My friends baby has the same problem, and she shops at Stride rite for his shoes.I,m not sure how much they are, but most likely expensive. What about shopping at a resale store for babies and seeing if they have some wide shoes..At least there they will be cheap and still look good.Good luck

Whoa!

Finally broke down and took Cody to Stride Rite today. $40 for a pair of shoes!!!! I don't even spend that on me. Oh well -- turns out he has a double wide foot.

I did manage to find one shoe store online (so far) that carries extra wides for infants http://www.shoebuy.com . They're prices are comparable or even less than Stride Rite (and adorable shoes!), but I'm not sure about shipping. I assume it will probably be the same or even more by that point.

Oh well! I'm still open for suggestions if anyone has ideas on other places to buy extra wides!

Stride Rite

I have to get both my boys shoes at Stide Rite. And they are a little on the expensive side but they last foever.I get Ryan's half a size bigger then he really needs-he's a double wide too.Very fat feet too.My oldest son is almost 9 and we get his there too before school starts and by the end of the year they are still like new,so they are very good quality.I hope you have as good luck as we did.

So unfair

It's really unfair for anyone to have to pay $40 for a pair of kids' shoes. I agree that they are high quality, but I find that a lesser quality is just as well since they outgrow them before they wear out (usually).

And honestly -- I really like the cute cheapie shoes with Disney characters on them. I still have a size 1 high top with Pooh on them. He never could wear them, but they were oh so adorable!

The funny thing is going to see their bronzed shoes side by side one day. Jessi was a mere 3 months when she got her first pair, which I'm quite sure were a size 1. Here's Cody with his big size 5 -- twice as wide as hers. It ought to be a site!

Of course, the important thing is that he's comfortable - -and if it takes $40 shoes, so be it. Thanks for the input -- it's at least nice to know that they will last awhile for that price!

I think that Stride Rite has a policy where if the child outgrow the shoe in a certain time then you get bigger ones free. You could check with the store to make shure.

Stride Rite

The store where I live has a policy that if the shoes wear out before the kids outgrow thwm they will replace them free BUT only with a pair of the same size.

Oh man, this sounds so familiar! Sydney has "odd" feet. They aren't extremely wide, but they're really thick. People tried to tell me she has a high instep--but her feet seem flat like mine! LOL

It took me FOREVER to find any shoes that would fit her feet! I searched all over (we have no Stride Rite store near us) and the only shoes I could find that would fit her were a pair of Nike's. I tried on various sizes of Stride Rites in a department store, but none of them would fit her. I really hated having to buy Nikes for her b/c I wanted her to have "girly" shoes to wear with dresses!

I ended up finding some Buster Browns at Walmart (navy blue dress shoes) that actually fit her feet! It seemed like every pair I tried on her before those were either WAY too long, or just would not go over her foot!

I could be of some help.Search the net!babylove.com.....that sort.Also---try nike's,schechers and stuff.Maybe you could go tothe mall and find maybe toddler shoes or infant shoes that are wide--Cody will just have to grow in them.

take him to babies r us,wal*mart or whereever and try the shoes on with him there that way you won't waste money.you might buy regular shoes and just get those laces that dont have to be ties and he can have the shoe loosened!U\I had to do that.It worked

My daughter Haley has not really wide feet but thick. She could only wear nike as a baby/toddler. It is easier to find her tennis shoes now that she is older but sandals and dress shoes are impossible to find because her feet dont fit under the front straps. All of her sandals have to have velcro adjustable straps over the front of the foot.

I'll have to give Nike a try. Someone else suggested them also. I've taken him with me to Kmart, Walmart & Payless. No luck. His foot his bigger than a typical wide. He wears an EXTRA wide in Stride Rite's shoes. We can't even get his toes in normal wide.

<Sigh> Can't wait for him to grow into his feet. LOL

Jeremy has his daddy's wide feet. I call them Fred Flinstone feet and he needs to get his shoes from Stride Rite. I also hear that Adidas are made wide as well. As far as boots Jeremy wears Lugz. I find them at Kid Foot Locker. They are nice and wide and go on his feet real easily! Stride Rite is expensive but the shoes do hold up!
