First Birthday parties

What did you do for your child's first birthday party? How big is to big and how small is too small?

Who did you invite .. since they don't really have a lot of "friends", was is mostly family or your friends too!??

Stink_Momma will become famous soon enough
We are throwing DS a birthday party and doing it back home in Florida. We are inviting family and our friends. We have probably 20 people invited and are doing ziti / salad, plus snacks and cake. We did get the Barney decorations, but even that is more for us then him. (Though I opted for ChipNDale dancer decorations since he won't know anyway...) I would say do what you want for this one, since it is mostly for the parents. Next year will be another story!

We are doing a swimming party. We invited all our family and friends. However .. this kid has so much stuff already .. I don't really want him to get any gifts. How do you tell everybody that? I don't want to hurt their feelings .. but if they insist on getting him something . I'd rather them just give him money and I can put it in his savings account!

Well, I would assume that since it is family and friends, you should just be able to tell them straight out, maybe suggesting bonds instead of money explaining that he has tons of toys and this way they will help contribute to a college fund or something. I have some friends that say when a birthday rolls around, they have their kids go through their stuff and pick some toys/books etc out to give to a charity. Makes them understand the theory of giving and also makes room for the new toys and stuff they are always getting. I thought that was a real neat idea. Maybe at 1, it is too early, but later years, I will institute that for birthdays and Christmas.
