Are you ready to see the extended family?

With the Holidays coming up, I know a lot of us will have family over or be traveling to visit family.
Are you ready?
Do you get along with your extended family? Who are you most excited to see? Who could you go another year before seeing?

Re: Are you ready to see the extended family?

I'm going to be seeing people in my family I haven't seen in 3 years. I'm going to my oldest brother Ray's house in Iowa. Not sure how I feel about it... There is usually drama there, my SIL seems to thrive on it. On the other hand it will be wonderful to see my nieces and nephews again... and as long as Ray and Angie don't start fighting should be a good visit. Also be interesting to see their reaction to the new me... They haven't seen me since surgery...

I thought I was seeing my Dad at Christmas... he was invited to our house and said he was coming. Now he's avoiding my emails.... Ray told me Dad said he wasn't coming and asked for my phone number to call and cancel. That was over a week ago, and he is still ignoring my emails and hasn't called. It's not a big deal that he isn't coming (you all have an idea what he's like from previous posts) but Tessa is dissapointed. We are going to Texas right after Christmas, and will only be an hour away from him. Hopefully, he will make the drive over to see the kids. (We are going to take care of my nephews (his grandsons) while my other SIL Misty has surgery).

There are many other people I wish I was seeing this Christmas... George, Shona and the Kids. My Friends on the east coast etc... But finances are tight all over.

Re: Are you ready to see the extended family?

We're actually just doing Thanksgiving at home, the 7 of us. I have a lot of problems with my brother and I told my parents I just shouldn't be in the same room with him or I couldn't keep the peace. So what happened? My parents are going to his house for the day (umm, my dad's house that they live in for free), so my mom can pay for all the food they will eat and need I say more? My brother at 41 is too good for the jobs available and is 18 months without work and has a wife and 2 kids. (that they had unemployed) Anyway, I just think he is bleeding my elderly parents dry so he and his useless wife can sit and home and play Mafia Wars all day. It's disgusting.

Ok, sorry for the vent, um, we're just having Thanksgiving with the 7 of us.

Re: Are you ready to see the extended family?

Dana. I have a cousin whose been like that for 25 years. I don't know what she'll do once her dad dies. Maybe after all these years at last the two leeches (my cousin and her dh) will finally have to get a job. All parties must be somewhat happy with it or they would change. You're right to stay out of it and find your happiness somewhere else.

We are staying home just the four of us. God forbid, dh's brother would hop in a car and drive the two hours our way. I don't mind, the inlaws are stressful to be around anyway. So no extended family for us.

Re: Are you ready to see the extended family?

I have no idea what we are doing. Yes, that makes me but that is so typical of Kyle's family. I have no family of my own that I'll see. My mom's family lives about two hours from here, but they never even call me at the holidays much less invite me up for anything. Now that my mom is gone, it's like I don't exist for them. I had hoped we could go to my sister's, but Kyle is working 2nd shift this week, and he can't take vacation when he's on 2nd shift. He's being an @ss today so it makes me wish I had just packed up the kids and gone by myself.
If we don't have Thanksgiving with Kyle's family (either here or at his aunt and uncle's house) then I guess we'll go over to my best friend Stephanie's house. Who knows.
And I am not looking forward to seeing any of Kyle's family. Kyle's brother is like Dana's brother, except you have to add in lying, stealing, drinking, drugs, arrests, and jail time, not to mention listening to him tell us what a victim he is, how everyone takes advantage of him ( ) and how he is so put upon, how God hates him, AND HOW LUCKY WE ARE.

Re: Are you ready to see the extended family?

I'm going to my sister's in Kansas for Thanksgiving. I have a great brother-in-law and am looking forward to seeing him as much as I'm looking forward to seeing my sis, niece and nephew. I haven't spent Thanksgiving with any of my family members for about 4 or 5 years now. I really miss them because I don't see them as much as I did before my parents passed away.

Re: Are you ready to see the extended family?

I am leaving to AZ wed. to see the inlaws... BY MYSELF! well with mini, but no Hubby.

I am super excited because all of Jordan's family will be there and I get along with them pretty well.

Sounds like you could use the break from your own family.

Re: Are you ready to see the extended family?

We are going to Rick's parents house, which iswhat we do when we can't get to TN to see my family (which we haven't done is ages - once in the past 3 years!) So, it will be us (4), RIck's older sister and her SO (2) neice, her SO and baby (3), BIL & his family (5) and Rick's younger sister visiting from Dallas (4), plus inlaws (2) for a total of 20 people in 1 house. Plus whoever else gets invited. (MIL hates anyone to be alone on the holidays - she's so sweet!) It will be crowded and noisy. People will be fighting (since that happens every holiday). Maybe I'll just stay home and enjoy some peace and quiet since I can't eat any of the yummy food anyway!
