"Our wealthiest people flaunt their status by the slenderness of their bodies. Common people working 40 hours or more a week and raising a family do not have 3 hours free a day to work out with a personal trainer, nor can they afford fat free, low calorie foods. At the time of the early Jews and Greeks, an excess of food and the option not to engage in hard labor were signs of wealth. Excess weight was a demonstration of wealth and status. In modern western societies, the opposite has become true."
