Tummy Time?

Everyone keeps telling me that Sharla needs to "play" on her tummy to learn to keep her head up. She doesn't like to be on her tummy b/c she can't pick her up, so what do I do? I'm afraid I'm keeping her from developing her neck muscles. I try to put her on her stomach once a day for at least 5 mins, but she gets mad. Also, I thought she should be holding her head up by now (3 1/2 mo.) and she lets it fall down to her chest when we sit her up, is that ok? When should I be worried?

I'm not sure when she should be holding her head up by. I would ask your Dr if you are concerned. I think that my kids held their heads up by 2-3mo but it seems so long ago now that I can't really remember.

None of my kids liked tummy time either.

I NEVER put my 4 year old on his tummy because hejust didn't like it and he developed perfectly fine, actually developed quite a bit ahead of where he should have been.

Dylan.. eh.. he really didn't care wether or not he was on his belly. So I arely put him on it.. then the one day I did put him on his belly.. he rolled over.. he probably was... hmmmm.. I think 3-4 months! (he's 5 months now!)

I never put emily down for tummy time, she hated it, now she is 9 mos old and I would say when she was 8 mos is when she started liking tummy time, she was holding her head up by 3.5 mos old(maybe a little earlier). my dd now crawls, flips and flops, rolls around... I think it depends on baby....

both my kids HATED tummy time...and when they could figure out hwo to roll over, tummy time was pointless...I mean heck as soon as I had them on their tummy they would roll back onto their back

Every baby is different, so please don't get discouraged yet. I would bring it up to her doc just to be sure, but worry yourself just yet. Have you tried using a boppy pillow to prop her on her stomach? Jen used to love this because when she would raise her head even a little she could see much more and would get excited and do it again.

I think it just depends on the baby. But if you feel concerned talk to your drs. I cannot remember the exact times for my kids... but they both held their heads pretty well when they were first born. Not like they do now, but more than the usual babies I had seen. Tummy time.... I don't remember if either kid cared for those either. Thats sad since Devin is only 10 months and I don't remember ne of this!!!

Logan only liked tummy time when i layed on the floor beside him... then he loved it and became a tummy sleeping baby...

My ds is a little older than your lil one. Every baby is so different though so it's hard to compare. My neice and bf baby are 1 week apart and their development was night and day. If you are concerned speak with his md at his next appt.
