Son/Daughter is very reluctant to move, saying he will miss his friends and wants to stay with his father, what would you do?

I think you have to be very open with the child. Find out why they are feeling this way, and suggest ways they can make themselves more comfortable in the new location. Offer any help you can when you get there.

We are actually going through this with Haley although there is no other parent for her to stay behind with.
We are planning on moving in the spring and have begun talking about it. Haley cries and says she will miss her friends and not know anybody... and what if no one likes her ... that sort of thing.
I just try to explain to her that moving is hard for everyone and that we all will miss something about this house and this town. We just have to remember that moving is a lot of fun also... she will get to decorate a new room, explore a new yard, meet new people etc. I also make sure she knows that just because she won't live as close to her friends doesn't mean that they won't be friends anymore. She will still be able to call them and see them on the weekends.

You both have fine ideas. Good rules to go by.
Elaine I did not know you were moving, are you moving far?
