Baby Bananas

Why pay so much money when its so easy to do it yourself!

Take a ripe banana and smash it with a fork until all the lumps are out, and the banana is mushy(almost liquid like). Thats it! Its so easy!

For babies just beginning solids, mix a little breastmilk or formula with the mashed banana to give it a more liquid consistency.

I agree, Cleo - why buy jarred bananas?? Only I have always used a potato masher to mash them. Great tip!

You guys sure have some good ideas. I love to save $$ and it never crossed my mind to make the baby food on my own. I guess I'm going to start buying the fruits and vegies and start using the blender why not?

Lol Doreen, at least you have free bananas. Here I have to pay .60 a lb.
I like the idea of freezing portions in ice cube trays, that's smart.

Yes, it's still safe, I think. If you add a little lemon or pineapple juice, they don't brown as much.

When DS was a little older, I used to mash some soft plain tofu in with the bananas. Hardly changed the flavor, and added a little protein to his diet (we kept him on a strict vegetarian diet until 18 months due to family medical history).
