Did your little one have problems with constipation?

What did you do for it? When did it get better?

I'm fresh out of ideas.....

We did the Cairo Syrup 1 tsp in 2 bottles a day with DD and with DS it was so bad we had to put it in every bottle. Also they had me give them prune juice and BOY did that help

Depends on how bad it is. We tried everything with Drew, but they finally ended up having to give him a suppository. I was so freaked about it I had to take it to my MIL to do it for me!

With Ally we did the Karo syrup and that worked great. But both of mine were several months older than Lauren when we did this. Can you give such a little one Karo?

When my friend's baby was about a month or two old...he was very constipated...the DR told her to give him juice...apple, prune...do not put water in the juice...full strength. That helped him.

Also I would just call her DR...see what they say before doing anything.

Used Prune juice ( diluted to about 1/2 strength ) for Jared. But be ready for one TOTALLY loaded diaper !!!!
( keep the gas mask handy, too )

Sorry my post just disappeared

Quick recap: Rick and Tk had a bad reaction to the soy formula they were on, Rick wouldn't stop going and TK couldn't go at all. A change of formula stopped it recurring.

The Plunket nurse and Dr both suggested a teaspoon of brown sugar in 50mls of warm water (that turns out to be 1.7 ounces - looking for that conversion is what made my post go bye bye )

Also gentle heat on her tummy and lower back will help with the pain.

to Lauran and Mummy.

PS: the sugar water did not cause any nasty side effects it just made him go, it only took an hour or two, but bc it is so gentle it does not work instantly.

Thanks everyone!! Maree, I'll have to try the brown sugar. That might work better.

Robyn... for Dylan! I hope the Dr. can help him. Poor lil guy!

At an older age (5/6 months) my mom started giving my DD a teaspoon of light olive oil and that seem to work wonders. She gets it everyday. I had asked DD Ped and she suggest mineral oil.

Daniel had bad constipation as a baby and we gave him prune juice, and that sure cleared him out.

What age was he when they started prune juice?
Daniel was six weeks old when he started the prune juice. We started with 30 ml twice a day.

Wonderful! I will definitely try that! Was that diluted with any water or full strength?

Kim, i just remembered something my dr mentioned...that newborns don't need the iron fortified formula... not until around four to six months.. i cant' remember what kind you are using, but he said it just causes constipation..

i hope you get poor lil Lauren going soon!

We've been using Karo syrup, which used to work, now I'm using diluted apple juice, which is working much much better.

The prune juice... one small dose, worked wonders.

We changed her formula to the Alimentum Advance (for food allergies and colic) and it's like night and day. We also changed bottles and she seems to be doing better with those.
