What would be the typical actions of a child if they were having separation anxiety?

Jonathan has improved in a lot of areas since he's been staying home with DH. He listens better. He minds. He plays with the little kids at church. He entertains himself a lot better. He is OK during the day. If I come home at lunch and leave again, he's OK. But if I come home from work in the afternoon and leave again for any reason (even to go to the mailbox), he goes NUTS! If we go somewhere and I hop out of the car to pump gas, he starts crying uncontrollably. Even after I get back in the car, he continues to cry until he sees that I'm not getting out again. Last night we were loading up things from our Christmas party and he was in his seat. He cried from the minute he saw me out the window until I got in the car. DH said he thinks he's having separation anxiety from me. (He does the same thing if DH leaves the car, but not if he leaves the house.) The only time I have seen him ever at this way was when we lived at our old house. Until he was able to walk an maneuver stairs well, we kept the basement door closed. If we'd go into the basement, we'd shut the door. And he's get upset if he saw us go down there. But we haven't had that kind of problem ever since.

Do you think he's really having separation anxiety? He is with Daddy all day most days, and he's with both of us all evening and all weekend. I'm probably with him more now than I was when DH was working full-time. Is this just a phase that they all go through?

Logan creis and gets clingy and begs me to stay. He does this every once in a while at daycare and lately whenever Ileave him for his visitation with his father. At daycare I remind him he is a big boy and mommie needs to go to work. He stand in the window and waves and blows kisses ans calms down after I leave. Some days he walks right in and has no problem at all. He is worse after he spends alot of time with his father.
