Nativity scene~~OFFENSIVE or NOT?

Thread Starter
I heard about this last week. For me personally, it is not offensive. It is a joke and I understand that but I also can understand where the other side is coming from. These are important figures in Christian history and to make light of it and compare them to people in our modern pop culture could offend some people.

I think it's kind of funny. However, I disagree that GW is a "wise man".

Is it any worse that some of the political cartoons that are published without a second thought? Personally, I think it's on the same level. There's always going to be somebody that is offended by one thing or another. Personally, I feel like if you can't have a little humor in life, what's the point???

Did ya hear the one about the priest, the rabbi, and the pop star that were offended by the nativity scene?

Well I certainly can understand why someone would be upset. It doesn't necessarily bother me.

But if I was a Christian and I was included in that scene without my permission I would have been greatly offended!

But otherwise no it doesn't offend me.

I don't see it as offensive

I do find it offensive. I don't go around making fun of the important figures in other religions so I don't appreciate it being done with mine. Whether it's a politicial cartoon or any type of venue, I find it very offensive to me and my beliefs.

I don't think it is in the best of taste.

I mean, Khomeini (sp?) put out a hit on Rushdie for writing bad things about Islam in that book he wrote.

Do I just have to "take it" because I'm a Christian? Well...yes and no.

Yes, in that we are directed to forgive "seventy times seven" or something like that.

No, in that I, as a person, have a right to my opinion.

But we do tend to treat celebrities as being in a "higher class" than the rest of us (peasants), and many "famous" people are anything BUT "high class".

I always thought God had a great sense of humor, why else would we have it.
No I am not offended by it. Sometimes to make light of things during a stressful time in life, laughter is the best medicine.
I agree with Dawn also.

I think it was in really poor taste personally.
