Question?

It took my Dh and I 10 years to have our first little boy and had him through IVF. I was diagnoised with PCOS and not ovulating.. Well I went in for my annual which mind you I hadn't had a period in 5 months. and they did blood work look at my hormones levels and my insulin and sugar levels.. they told me that looking at the results I do not display anything that would remotely resemble PCOS. How can this be? I am really confused. So they put me on prometrium and I had a whopper of a period and that was in October and haven't had one since. What is the problem? Any ideas?

I couldn't tell you. Was your doctor not able to give you some idea what it may be then? Good luck TTCing.

Lovebug, I know exactly what you have to put up with because I have PCOS and have to be put on Prometrium to bring on periods. I have only had 2 on my own..I have no idea what I did to get them on my own but I did it. Then I didn't get any more so I had to get more Prometrium from my dr.

Has your dr ever put you on Metformin or Glucophage? It is suppose to help your insulin levels which has a great deal to do with why we have PCOS. I would ask your dr about getting you on Metformin/Glucophage (same thing...Metformin is the generic brand of Glucophage).

I think sometimes docs don't take enough time to properly diagnose. Maybe you were misdiagnose one of the time. I would suggest getting another opinion. Have you seen or are you seeing an infertility specialist?

I was on gloucophage during my ivf and after then I stopped taking it I didn't see much of an improvement with it. maybe my dose wasn't high enough. I so want to have another baby. This is really hard. I was praying that I didn't have to do IVF again but I think that it is what might have to happen... I was thinking that I might try clomid for a couple months but I am not sure.

First of all PCOS, is extremely hard to diagnose. Unless this doctor that says you don't have it is a specialist with lots of experience with PCOS, I wouldn't let them throw the diagnosis out... Also the Metformin, does have to be at a pretty high dosage to help out, I also have PCOS. You might want to try using a Progesterone Cream, you can pick it up at GNC or other nutrition stores. It can sometimes help to bring on periods for people with PCOS. Also, try eating less high carb foods. I'm not saying cut out all carbs, but you know wheat over white, brown rice instead of white etc... That will help with your insulin levels.
