Will Castor Oil or Eggplant Start Labor? How about sex, Evening Primrose or Raspberry Tea? Most women become extremely uncomfortable around the 36 week mark and start looking for methods to help Mother Nature along a little quicker than she has planned. This article covers a number of such methods and weighs the pros and cons of each.

I was just wondering what methods you ladies have tried? What would you consider trying and under what circumstances?

I used the Castor Oil method with my first pregnancy. While it was the most horrid thing I had ever tasted and made me throw up after the first glass, it did work. I was in labor in under 10 hours. I was overdue though and I've heard that this method like most won't work if you aren't ready for labor anyway.

I went over again on my second pregnancy and at 3 days over I tried Castor Oil again and it ended up not working. I was so frustrated too because I had worked on getting glasses of that crud down for hours.
At 1 week overdue I tried nipple stimulation. It took a while but after an hour and a half of on and off stimulation, I was having mild contractions. It wasn't another hour before my water started leaking and I went in to the hospital. I agree with the article that it causes unnecessarilly painful contractions and I'm not sure I would try this again. Of course I don't plan on being pregnant again.

I didn't try anything really, except I have heard of many people trying the Castor oil though.

There is an old fashion soda shop in town here that will put together a labor inducing milk shake for you. I'm not sure what exactly is in it but they display pictures of all the babies suposedly induced with it and there are quite a few.

Another method that the article doesn't mention was black cohosh. I tried that one with my first pregnancy before trying castor oil. I drank it is tea 3 times a day for a week with no results at all.

I think I would just let nature take it's course. Or have the doctor induce like he did with Drew (who was 12 days late).

The very idea of taking castor oil makes me gag! And I am wary of taking things the doctor hasn't ok'd.

With Gavin I tried walking and walking. I also tried nipple stimulation and that started contractions and we even went to the hospital...but they stopped. I begged and begged Court to but he was a little freaky about it with my first pregnancy and refused. I never tried eating anything or drinking anything. I was too chicken.

With Maddie I tried nothing..she came on her own earlier than she was planned. With Abby we went for a ride on Court's motorcycle hoping all the bumping would do something but nope nothing.
