Question about progesterone and clomid

Okay, I have one child who is 22 months. She was not planned but of course now we cannot imagine life without her! We've been ttc for 12 months with no success. I have irregular periods and never knew when I was ovulating. My doctor just put me on progesterone to start my period (10 mg for 10 days). I am on day three. I also was prescribed clomid for days 5-10 of my cycle (when it actually decides to start. ) Has anyone else ever tried this treatment? Did it work for you? I have no female problems besides irregular cycles. Like not months in between but maybe 6 weeks then 4 weeks then 7 weeks. Anyway we're so hoping for #2, I'm 24...Anyone have words of encouragement? Thank you!
PS: I'm new to message boards and don't know all the lingo...sorry

I have PCOS and have had to use progesterone many times to bring on a priod but it was bc I was months without one. Basically it sounds like they want to control your cycle or get them regular so you can ovulate nad become pregnant. I took chlomid many years ago but also had HCG shots to release any eggs the chlomid produced. I am sure I am not quite wording it correctly and there are others here that can do it better then me. Good Luck!!

Good luck! I also used progestrone to start my period in November and then used Clomid. We used Clomid to conceive Brianna, our first child and the one I am pregnant with now. I hope it works for you as well.

Thanks so much for your reply. I feel very nervous and knowing that someone somewhere has done this with success makes me feel so much better!

I have never used Progesterone pills... however, I have used the over the counter Progesterone cream. I used a combination of Metformin and Clomid to concieve my second child. The combination, because I have PCOS. Good Luck!!

Clomid

I also tried this treatment. I would go months without a period, and I found out I wasn't ovulating. My Dr put me on progesterone to start my period, then Clomid on days 5-10. We tried this for 5 months with no luck. It was too stressful, expensive, and insurance didn't pay for it, so we stopped. I started exercising regularly, and we looked into adoption. We stopped trying to conceive. I was pregnant a month later! The Dr said my regular exercising helped me to ovulate on my own! And with all the stress of trying to conceive gone, it happened! Good luck! My daughter is now 15 months old, and we are trying to conceive #2!

Hi tsgirl and everyone, glad to find someone in my situation.....I have PCOS and irregular cycles as well. My Doctor started me on Primolut N (10mg for 21 days) to regulate my period and said to come on next CD#5 which I am expecting Clomid then...Have anyone used Primolut (Oral Progestogen) before? Do you know if any side effects you experienced, thanks everyone.....

and good luck to your tsgirl

I was on Clomid but it didn't work for me- I have endometriosis so I had to have a laparoscopy before I could get pg. I know people that got pg on clomid and progesterone though. Good luck

I don't have PCOS but I do have irregular periods. Not months in between but like 4 weeks then 6 weeks then 5 weeks...Just irregular enough to really screw me up while ttc!Anyway, I took progesterone for 10 days (10mg) and really didn't notice any side effects except for feeling really energized and the guy across the room suddenly looked a lot cuter Anyway, I'm sure you'll do fine on this... It's the Clomid that gave me a little he**. Hot flashes, crying at nothing, and the occasional freak out on dh. But overall just fine. I would take it again in a millisecond if it didn't work. Good luck!!

My son was conceived by getting things going with progesterone, and following with Clomid. Took about 3 cycles of Clomid, as I recall - had to get the timing down. For me, at least, I figured out that I ovulate about 9 days after the last Clomid. Once you figure that out, the timing gets easier.

I have actually conceived several times with Clomid, but there appears to be some other problem going on, because I miscarried each early. Hopefully, we'll have an appointment with a specialist soon to address that.

Judy, I have read your journal a little here and there and I hope you find a doctor who can figure things out for you. I'm happy for the reassurance about Clomid...I've been so determined to get preggers the first round....But I guess I'm gonna have to relax.

The Clomid did the same thing to me as it has done to you, Jessica. I had the worst hot flashes! Once I stopped the clomid, my dr put me on progesterone because technically I became pregnant on the Clomid, but it was not viable, so I miscarried pretty quickly, and the dr said that I needed to be on progesterone. So I started that right away, and then the dr decided to have me do Gonal-F shots. The first month on the shots, I got pregnant, and he kept me on progesterone for about three or four months. I took oral progesterone, but not pills, it was troches. Basically, these look like a small piece of Chicklet gum, and you stick it between your cheek and your gum and let it dissolve. It comes flavored, but it was still kinda nasty. THAT SAID, I would do all of that and much more to have Emily. I would give myself 10 shots a week if I had to. It was all worth it.
