Is there a general rule about how far ahead of time you should plan a baby shower? I know that a lot of people are waiting until after the baby is born. But for a first child when people don't have any baby items already, what would be a good rule of thumb for scheduling a shower?

4-6 weeks prior to EDD is what I've always heard as rule of thumb.

I would say around 7 months or so

I have heard around 7 months at the earliest (unless they think she might go really early--like she's already on bed rest)
