Desperate for ideas!

We are having Ally's birthday party on the 29th of January and I am just stumped for party ideas. I can't afford to do the "theme" stuff this year (like Dora). What can I do that is CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP, easy to find AND will be fun for all the kids. This will be the first year that we have had games and stuff for her since she is finally old enough.

I need any and all ideas you can think of! Thanks!

Not sure if Ally would like any of these but they looked like fun ideas for birthday parties.

Go to the dollar store and get plates, cups, napkins. They have different colors and some "themes" like flowers, birthday balloons, etc. They also have games like pin-the-tail on the donkey that the kids can play and stuff you can put in goodie bags, if you are doing them.

And I've found that scavenger hunts always go over well. You can write or draw clues on pieces of paper to lead the kids around the house/yard until they find the "treasure". It can be candy, toys, bubbles, etc. The dollar store has lots of stuff you can get to put in a treasure chest and what they get out of it could be considered their take-home goodies.

And HERE'S a link for making a paper bag pinata. It calls for lunch bags so kids can make their own - which would be a fun activity for the kids to do - but I don't see why you couldn't adapt it to use a full-size grocery bag and make a big one for the kids to whack at. Again, what they get out of it could be their take-home loot.

Ally really wants a Care Bear party. I was thinking that I could do a kinda rainbow theme. I saw a cute idea for using a picture of a Care Bear with no pic on the tummy for a pin-the-tail kinda game. The markers could be rainbows with the kids name on them. I can use crepe paper in different colors to decorate. Also saw a cute way to make a rainbow cake.

But I need game ideas and goodie bgas stuff that won't cost alot. Most of the kids will be girls, but there will be 2-3 boys here. And the kids ages will be from 1 year old to 11 years old. Which makes it dificult. ARGH!

Again, go to the dollar store. They have candy and little trinkets you can get with like 3-4 in a bag, so if you buys a few of those, you can get a little goodie bag of stuff for $5 or so.

How many kids are you expecting?

I'd just get some cheap pastel colored plates, napkins, etc. at the Dollar store. You never know, you might luck out and they might actually have Care Bear stuff there. I LOVE the idea about the pin the "whatever" on the belly of the bear.

I saw something really cute on Ebay that I'm going to do for Jonathan's birthday. For treat bags, you just fill a plain ziploc bag with m&m's or Skittles, or whatever. And they made a foldover thing with a piece of paper and stapled it across the top of the bag. (Kind of like the cardboard top you'd find on a hanging bag of candy in the store, but without the hole punched in it. On one side it had pictures of the characters (like Care Bears or Blues Clues, or whatever) and said "Ally's Special 4th Birthday". It was just printed on the computer. On the back it said "Ingredients: Tons of Fun, Bushels of Laughter, Good Friends, Kindness, etc. etc." And then "Thanks for celebrating with me." It was very simple, but cute. I figured I could print my own really cheap and do basically the same thing.

What a great idea! I am making party poppers out of toilet paper rolls for Ally's party instead of actual goodie bags. I just need the stuff to put in them.

Mostly I am still working on the games I need. I can't believe I am having such a hard time with it. Guess I really need to just think of some traditional games and put new spins on them to match the theme.

Party poppers out of toilet paper rolls sounds like a neat idea. How do you make them? Mind if I "steal" the idea for Elizabeth's party?

Sure! You just take the toilet paper rolls and fill them with a few pieces of candy and a few little toys. Them you either roll them up in tissue paper or wrapping paper. Twist the ends of the paper and tie with ribbon. I use different colored ribbon for boys and girls since the toys are different. Really simple to do. Also, they don't get too much candy this way since you can only fit so much in them!
