Double stoller (yes or no) kids 3 years apart

For others that have kids close in age did you buy a double stroller? Did you actually find that you got your money's worth out of it? I keep wondering how often I'll actually use it? Then say you get the double and it's only you and the baby do you use the double or did you buy a singe stroller too????
Yes! I had my kids 4 years apart and loved the double. You actually have room to place a diaper bag and purse and other stuff you cant with the single stroller!

No ... I wouldn't. Mine only sat in a stroller up until the age of 3, so it wouldn't have done me any good. But not all kids are little blubber butts like mine were!
Mine are only 1.5 years apart, and I bought one, but I wouldn't do it again. I would look into the ones where the older one just sits on a little platform. The thing I didn't like about the double is that it is so wide or long (depending on which kind you get) and sometimes hard to push. Maybe the platform thing is more convenient, since the 3 year old doesn't need any support sitting.

I'm in the same boat Lupe... I'm not sure which to buy. I went and looked at them the other day. My problem with the platform ones is that Sammie is only about to be 2, and there is no way she can lay down in that stroller if we are out all day. I think I'm going to get a double....

I was soooooo tempted to get one, but decided against in....instead I did manage to find a stand stroller (where baby sits in the stroller part, and yoru toddler can stand on the back part). I think that was a much better idea. OUr kids are 3 years apart, and the idea of a double stroller was great, but in reality we figured we would not get as much use out of it to justify the expense.
My advice...nooooo. I spent a bunch of money on a really nice double stroller that I hardly ever use. It is HUGE! And it is HEAVY!!

If I were to do it over again I would get something lighter with the stand thing on the back.

When we would go out and Abby was very little but Maddie could not really walk I would carry Abby in the sling and maddie in the stroller.

I was thinking about this to. Nick will be 19 months old when Kiera is born. It seems over the past couple of months he doesn't like the stroller anymore. He prefers to walk, so I don't think I am going to waste the money.

I bought a double stroller with Michael and Devon, and the sucker broke after not having it that long(it's been so long I forget who made it, but I think it was Graco). It was big, bulky, and overall a pain.

I think I need one for sure. I just don't know what kind yet.

Mine were not quite that far apart but we loved, loved, loved our double stroller. We bought the Ingelsina Biposto (which looking at others I think is the only one we would want( which was great because with the universal bar in the middle you can make it so that you have an array of seating arrangements. You can have the children:

1. Side by side both facing you.
2. Side by Side both facing out.
3. Side by side, one facing you and one facing out.
4. In a row, both facing you.
5. In a row both facing out. In a row facing each other.
6. In a row one facing you and one facing out.

Also, the universal bar is equipped in such a way that if another child came along, it could hold up to 4 children on the same base.

It's come down about 200 dolars since we bought it, now you can get them fairly cheap, around 350-400 dollars. It's worth every penny.

Lupe and Heather I have the Graco double stroller and it held up for the last 7 years. I loved it. I know they raise $350 for me at work and bought so much stuff so I think this stroller was under $100 whatever your price bracket!

My first two were 19 months apart and the double stroller was a must. Darien got booted out of the stroller (A little before 3) when Leah was born.

Be sure to check the recalls - I saw where one of the ones with the platform attachment had a recall on it, but I don't remember
which one it was.

Thanks Jan

When we had the boys, the double stroller was great, but they were the same age. I will say to stay AWAY from triple strollers, when Olivia was born (the boys were 14 months), we tried and that thing was so freaking heavy and hard to manuver (sp?) that it sat in the basement until I took it to a resale shop. I know, I am way off topic.

I was thinking about getting one too but they don't have enough room for rhyne to get in and out easily.
I wanted one. And I did get one. (Thank you Dee! )
We've used it a few times. However, being winter, I haven't been out alot where I would use it yet.

I can say this, whenever I've had Delaney in the stroller, Kyler wants to get in as well OR he wants me to carry him. ha! (I'm NOT that good. )
So... the double stroller has come in handy for us. I'm assuming that once it warms up, I'll be using it alot more. We'll see.

Thanks everyone, I think I'm going to end up putting it on my registery. My problem is when I go to the mall it's usually just me so I can't be pushing a stroller and casing a 3 year old. I don't have a choice I think.

When Alexander was born, my SIL gave us her double stroller and I loved it, even with just one child. It had extra room to put stuff in and it was great. Then she and I got pregnant at the same time with our daughters and I gave her's back and bought another one, I think by Kolcraft, and I love it just as much. I'm lucky that Alexander STILL likes riding in them, and he's skinny enough that he still fits. Elizabeth, she rides awhile and then wants out, especially since she can walk. But I wouldn't trade a double for anything. Mine is lightweight, easy to fold, easy to manuver, and I just love it.

Thanks guys.... And Dana, you weren't off topic...

Next question, anyone ever tried one of those kiddie boards, that attatches to a regular stroller?
IMO I think everyone is different. I know I wouldn't like a double but I'm sure there are several people who love them. Just go look at a variety and find one that fits you. Maybe one that manuevers easily and that is easy to transport.

Ok well I went and registered yesterday I had some free time and no DD to take with me. I tried the double it's easy to move but getting the infant carrier to attach was kind of a pain in the butt. Then when I folded the stroller up (that was easy) but it was still so huge I have no idea really if it's going to fit in our trunk!!! I'm going to have to take my car back and check. Either way I did list it on my registery along with the single stoller that also takes the same infant seat. I guess will see what happens.

I have a Graco double stroller for my day care kids. I have a love/hate relationship with it. It pushes really easily but it's huge! I have a van now but when I had my car it wouldn't fit in the trunk. So much for using it for field trips. Did you look at the double umbrella strollers? I wish I had gotten one of those instead. I like the ones that recline so it can be used for babies too.

I truly think I'm going to go with the single. I was just so irritated after trying to put the infant seat onto the stroller that I was mad. Then when I folded it down and see how long it still was I just feel like forget it. I'll either have DH take care of Desi or make him go and push her in her own stroller. For the price I just don't think I'll use it that much. Then it says for up to 4 years only then that give me only 9 months and Desi's feel hit the floor already in her single. Plus she puts her feet on the wheels and makes it harder to push. So I'm going to take the single and hope for the best.
Lupe, yep I think I'm going for the single as well. I am going to try and get a kiddy board off of ebay for Sam, and if I don't she will just have to walk. She usually does anyway

Ok what's a kiddy board?
Are you planning on having more kids in the future? That would be a big plus in getting one, I think.

Benjamin and Trinity are 4.5 years apart and I'm not having anymore, so we went with a single, of course. Then it got stolen off our front porch!

I'd be worried about the space and manuverability (sp? and is that a word? ), like Eva. Just my

Lupe, it is a board that they sell over in Europe to attatch to the back of the stroller for your child to stand on.

They are very expensive, but you can get them on ebay for relativley cheap.. They are in the stroller accessories section..

I'll have to check into that one. See when I go to the stores here, with my first I would get so mad I would tell DH lets leave because the single stroller wouldn't even feet. And I'm the type of person who has no patients for that. I mean the rows in the stores are so tight then you get people who just stop in front of you I could just see my self either going off on some person or a store manager because I was pissed with my shopping experience. So getting the single might save my sanity. But I'm going to check into the kiddie board for sure.

Thanks everyone!!!!

We had a double stroller with the boys. There were 26 months apart when Connor was born. We used it for almost a year and pretty much by the time Austin turned 3 he wanted nothing to do with it. But I still used it because it was great lugging stuff around in it and Connor could recline and sleep in it if we were out anywhere.
