I know somebody posted about this before, but I couldn't find it.

Would you name your child using a friend's child's name?

Let me explain: Jason and I both like the name of MacKenzie Ann for a girl. A friend of mine has a 6 year old daughter with the name MacKenzie. Is it wrong of us to use the name? I only talk to this friend on the phone and Jason and her family have never met. None of our friends here know her or even know of her. She lives quite a distance away from us so visiting for any of us would be quite a trip so this is why we haven't seen each other in at least 7 years. I thought of just asking her to see how she would feel? Jay seems to feel that she would be flattered, but I don't know.

What do you think?

Under those circumstances I would. I agree with Liz about calling her to tell her though. Beautiful name by the way....

Like the name also, but not sure about calling. I mean if she tells you no will you not use it. I guess if your calling to tell her your already picked the name then yes but not calling to ask to use it. It's not her name only, if it was me and someone said they wanted to use my DD name I would be flattered.

I would plan to use the name but call the person and let them know so they don't hear it from someone else.

Someone I know on a "hi, how 'ya doing" basis was pregnant the same time as I was with Elizabeth. She knew she was having a girl while we were waiting until birth. Everytime I saw her she asked me about names and I told her we were gonna use Elizabeth if we had a girl. She would only tell me they were discussing names. She had her daughter three weeks before I had mine and, you guessed it, she named her Elizabeth. It didn't bother me that she used the same name but it bothered me that she didn't tell me herself. She knew she was going to name her daughter Elizabeth but kept it to herself. Sorry for the long story but wanted to tell you how I felt when I found out someone had used the same name as I was going to use. As you see, it didn't stop me that she used it first!

Thanks for the help, Ladies. We think we are going to use MacKenzie. I will call my friend just to let her know, not to ask.

Id do it. If you like the name, go for it! As someone else said, she isnt the only little girl with that name.

My best friends name is Hannah and so is her cousin, they have the same surname too, being out with both of them is seriously confusing!
