I am going to have my first IUI in the morning. What are the chances that we will have a positive results and what should I expect?

Well, for my DH and I, we had positive results with our first IUI for both Brianna and the twins. The pregnancy rates for IUI are usually pretty good.

What to expect? Well, you may have a little cramping during or after the IUI, I didn't but it can happen. The doctor should come in, the nurse will confirm that the sperm sample your DH provided matches with his and your names. The doctor will use what is known as a tomcat catheter to insert the sample, then you will stay lying down for 10 minutes and then you can get dressed. That is the way my specialist did it, I don't know if there is another method.

Good luck tomorrow. I hope all goes well and we hear that you will be joining us on the PG boards.

Abbi, I wish I had seen this post sooner, but I just noticed it today. My husband and I got pregnant using IUI in combination with Gonal-F shots. We were successful on our third try. I know a lot of people who have had success on the first try, so I was very discouraged that it took us three times! When can you do a pregnancy test? Good luck!

Abbi, thankfully the nurse at our specialist's office was able to find a pharmacy that would donate the Gonal F injections. She said they would have cost aroudn $2000 for a one month supply.
We had to pay for the trigger shot (Hcg) to make me ovulate, and it was about $100 and then I had to take progesterone for several months (a few before I got pregnant and a few after I got pregnant) and that was $65 a month. We also had to pay for the IUI, which was around $400.
At the time we were going through all of this, it was overwhelming. It was all-consuming, and it was just constantly on my mind--getting pregnant, worrying about not ever having a baby, worrying about how we were going to pay for it, etc. So I completely understand how you feel.
As for trying to pay for all of this, I would first ask your specialist about trying to find a pharmacy that will donate the meds for you. If your specialist won't do this or can't find a pharmacy that will donate the injections, then the next thing I would suggest is getting a home equity line of credit if you own a house. If you don't, then you could see if you could pay in monthly installments. We did this with what our ins didn't cover, and we paid off the specialist just in time for Emily's birth!
I hope this helps. If you ever want to talk, email me or pm me and I'll send you my phone number. I really understand what this is like.
