Toddler Taken When Guilford Mom's Car Hijacked

POSTED: 7:46 am EST February 10, 2005

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A two-year-old Guilford County boy was back in his mother's arms about a half hour after the car in which he was sitting was stolen from a gas station.

REST OF STORY

Should this mom be charged with neglect? I can't imagine what this child was going through while this was happening and am glad they are safe and unharmed - physically anyway.

Good question! I'm glad I'm not the police to have to decide the answer.

I think warned that that's not something she should do they say never leave your child in the car alone not even to go to the ATM. Given a ticket or something but not charges pressed. I think that's to harsh for a one time accident.

Yep. No one should EVER leave a child in a car. HELLO!

I think the scare alone of that happening would be enough to teach most moms a lesson.

OK I admit....I am guilty of leaving the kids in the car if I run in to the gas station to pay...BUT I ALWAYS lock the door....and ONLY DO IT if I can see them clearly......and I never do it when its really cold or hot out.

I don't think that charges shoudl be pressed...but maybe give her a warning instead.

I never leave my kids in the car for any reason when I have to go inside a store. I'd rather have cranky kids and the frustration of having to get them in and out of their carseats than go through what this mom did.

Hopefully this is the one and only time she has done this and hopefully this has taught her a very valuable lesson. In that case, I'm sure what she went through was enough but she should still have been given a tough talking to by the police. If they find out she's had charges against her before for neglect, then they should most definately press charges against her.

I just feel so bad for that little kid. I keep seeing my kids and know how hysterical and scared they would have been. Heartbreaking.

Ok, so what if this was the only time she has done it (in refrence to maybe it taught her a lesson). It only takes 1 time on many cases. I am sorry but you just cannot leave you child in the car, ESPECIALLY with the keys in it. I am super paranoid about that and could not do it. If I there is something I need to do and do not want the girls to go in with me, I wait until Jason is home. Nothing is more important than thier well-being.
That being said, yes, I think she should be charged with something.

My comment was made meaning that hopefully this isn't a habit for her, not that it's okay to do it once. Like I said, I have NEVER left my kids in the car alone no matter what and don't think anyone ever should.

Oh, i understood Lisa. My comment was not really directed at any particular person.
