We sang the song, too - but to help with recognition we went on an ABC rampage. He ate ABC soup, we drew the letters on a Magna-Doodle, we drew them with crayons, we looked for letters in street signs while driving, we wrote letters on the bathtub wall with soap foam, we spelled out our names on the refrigerator with magnets, we played games with flashcards, we drew letters in the sandbox, steamed up mirrors, and on paper placemats in restauraunts while waiting for food.
Basically, we applied it to as many everyday activities as possible. Also, sometimes we had "letter days" I would assign the day with one letter - D for example. All day we would name things that started with D - door, daffodils, daddy. I would put a big piece of paper on the refrigerator, and as we found the words, I would write them on the paper. It's part of the reason that he knew his alphabet and could recognize each letter by the time he was 2, without being "drilled" about it - we made it fun!!!
Can anyone tell that I used to teach preschool??? Or that I have a very messy house LOL I am too busy!
