I wrote a letter to the radio station...

There is a radio station here--one of the largest in the area--that I've listened to ever since I moved here. I really liked it. They played more music. The only talk show they really had was the morning show, and they were funny. Well, last Thanksgiving, we went to Bob's grandma's for a week, and when we came back they had different hosts for the morning show. I didn't really care for them, but DH said he didn't like the last ones, but they grew on him.

Well, it's been several months, and these people still get on my nerves! Their humor is nt funny--it's crass. They take calls from listeners who proceed to curse on the air. They discuss things that I just can't listen to with my child in the car. He picked up a new word from the female host, and I really don't want my 3-yo saying b!+@#. You know…

Well, this morning, I was listening and the host had heard somewhere that the highway dept. wants to put a toll booth in at this one certain intersection. And they were debating that. The lady got all mad about it and made some comment about using the tax cut that the president gave us to pay for the tolls. That started on a rant on the president, then went to a rant on the people that elected him, then went to a rant on religion, then back to something totally unrelated. I mean, they can't even stay on topic. The only time they stay on topic is when they're talking about partying and alcohol and how drunk somebody got at the last concert they attended. I just can't listen to this any more. I like their music, and I really agree with a lot of the points that they make on things, but as the parent of a small child, I just can't listen to this kind of thing with the kid in the car. This is supposed to be a "family-friendly station". And this morning's discussion started out badly and went south from there.

So, when I got to work, I wrote a letter to the programming director. I'm sure it won't do much good, but at least I stated my opinion.

Send a copy to your local paper, too - I'd be willing to bet there are other parents out there with the same concerns!

We have a radio station like that. But it has always been that way. I don;t listen to it when the kids are in the car. Now if it was not always like that then I too would be peeved. I hope your letter helps a bit to get them thinking about maybe cleaning it up a little bit.
