Bug Party

I have managed to talk Brandon into doing a Bug Party for his 4th party instead of doing Thomas AGAIN this year. I think I have him excited. Here are some ideas I have, but I could use whatever imput you guys can spare!

My idea is this:

I love the bug mountain cake, and it is exactly what I was pictureing in my head. I can use gummy bugs and such for the decorations. Wanted to do some bug cupcakes, but not finding any on line. I guess I could just make mini version of the cake?

I bought Brandon a bug catching kit at Target for $2.99 each. It has the tongs, the net, the tweezers and a magnifying glass. I thought that would be great as a gift bag. My only problem? 30 kids! That would be $90 in gift bags! So I need to find them cheaper somewhere. Any help??

Am going to bury all kinds of cheap bugs and such in the sandbox and mulch piles so they can explore and find bugs.

Make my own invitations... Buzz on over for Brandon's party? Any other good bug lines I could use??

Any other ideas? Am I missing something? I am so excited!

I think it's a great idea and one that kids will have a blast with! Check the dollar store - I've seen kits like that there. You'd still be looking at $30 though. I think the cake looks like a lot of fun and for the cupcakes, just put gummy bugs on top of them. I think everyone is gonna have a good time.
