This is a recipe taken from the 1998 version of "Holiday Baking" - a small recipe book made by Gold Medal flour.

Randie came home with it one day when I sent him to the grocery store to pick up milk. I was mad at him for buying a silly $5 cookbook, because we were VERY tight on money that year. Turns out, I have used many of the recipes at one time or another - and this is my favorite in the book.

Holiday Cinnamon Crinkles

ingredients:
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
assorted colored sugars (I use red and green)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix sugar, margarine, shortening, and eggs in a large bowl. Stir in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.

Shape dough into 1 1/4 inch balls. Roll balls in colored sugar. (note from me: I only roll the tops of the balls in sugar, then place on cookie sheet sugar up) Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack.

About 4 dozen cookies

EVERYONE loves these cookies! I have yet to find someone who doesn't like them. They are kind of like a snickerdoodle, but a little different. The top of the cookie cracks (supposed to), and makes them look crinkly!
