ive started having my 3 year old help me with lil things around the house, like picking up, putting his clothes away after ive folded them and thats pretty much it. i rented him a monster inc video game and he couldnt wait to play it. i dont want for him to get the idea that he can come home and go straight to the tv.
I don't really "assign" Kimmy chores but she picks up after herself and keeps all her toys in her toyboxes. She loves to "help" fold laundry and unload the dishwasher.
when we can remember Liz has 3 chores.....i am trying ot get her into the habit of making her own bed
she has to help empty the dishwasher (i go through first and do all the things she can't do, like the stuff that goes in the high cupboards and knives and such.
Clean up the toys before bed time that are in the living room
Joey has a list of chores he's supposed to do each day, like clean up his toys, pick up laundry, straighten the bed (he's too little to make a full-size bed), and at dinner, set and help clean up the table. He likes helping with mopping, too.
All 3 kids are expected to help around the house when asked (and to pick up after themselves when NOT asked), but they don't have set chores. As far as allowances go, we did that for awhile, but it didn't really work out. So now I just tell the kids that helping out is expected of them and it's part of being a family.
Both kids started helping out at young ages but we didn't "assign" Alexander set chores until he turned four. He gets an allowance of $2 a week if he does them (cleans toys everyday & take plates to kitchen after meals). Elizabeth doesn't have any assigned chores yet and doesn't get an allowance but we do give her some coins when we give Alexander his allowance so she can put some money in her piggy bank. She'll get assigned chores and weekly allowance when she turns four.
