No clue about Austin bday party!

I haven't the slightest idea as to what to get Austin for his birthday!

He'll be 5 next month- I think he likes stuff that is a little too old for him. One of his favorite movies right now is freakin' Star Wars. I think most of those toys are just too much for him. He's been talking about wanting a light-saber so I think he can have one of those.

But he's not completely 'crazy' about anything in particular. He really like dinosaurs.. but.. he likes to 'read' about them. He likes dinosaur books. I can't get him ONLY books for his birthday.

Why, as his mother, am I having such a hard time buying for my own son! Please don't tell me I'm the only one!!!

Gosh I dont know what to tell you ~ I only have girls. But its just as hard. Ok well not really JUST as hard cause little girls like dress up and such too. Her cousin will be 5 in December and I'msure I'll have no clue what to get him. (but I think that lys is WAY more advanced than him too)

what about going ot a second hand store and finding costumes...or making some like Pirates and what ever other stuff he likes?

and girl you are not the only one that has a hard time. For Liz's bday all she watned and kept telling everyone was that she wnted a flashlight....it took us forever to figure out what to get her.

Oh and Christmas...all she wanted was a kitchen and Wiggles car

Only thing I can suggest is: take him to a toy store, by yourself if at all possible so that you're not distracted and can "take notes" so to speak - and just let him roam - see what all he looks at and go from there.

Hmmmm.... Are you having the party at home or out somewhere? Are you making the cake or buying it? Or do you have no clue?

Zachary is really into starwars right now too. He has 2 of those electronic light sabers and loves them.

I like Lisa's suggestion. Or is there some outside toy he would love? What about movies?

Don't worry I was the same way with Brittany this last year. I dont want to get her the game boy because I think there are other things she could do.

What about like Karate lessons? Or something like that?

Outside basketball hoop?

I have the exact same problem with all my kids. Seems like they want anything and everything, but come birthday time, I can never come up with anything good. Cody's really into batman right now. Convinced me to buy him the whole batman costume from Walmart (along with the sound effect gloves) and he really, really enjoyed this. He also loves his video games (does Austin have a gameboy?) Other than that, the only other thing he talks about really wanting is a pool.

Wel.. as for birthday PRESENTS.. that was easy: I forgot some CHRISTMAS presents to give him!

Then Elaine had those LeapPad Plus Writing books that I bought from her..s o he got 4 of those.

He's set!

Austin wants a Star Wars Light Saber too.. so I'm headed to wal-mart today for that

As for his party: taken care of.

Magic Mountain (paid for by my aunt! thank god!)

Thanks Ladies!

Dawn~ I've considered getting Austin a gameboy (the older version from e-bay probably- but i thought maybe the games were too old for him) How does Cody do? Austin LOVES video games..

Cody does pretty good with the games - some are harder than others. He does well with the Spongebob, Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. I'm looking at getting him a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle one for our trip. You'd probably be amazed at how quickly these 5 year olds can pick up on this stuff! Although I will warn you that Matt will end up having to play with him alot.

Shoot for Trey I am thinking about a gameboy. The next door neighbors grandson is 4 and is a master of them. I still have to think about it.

I'm glad you've figured out what to get Austin. What I do is keep a list of things that my kids "have" to have or that I think they would like. Then when it comes time for their birthday or Christmas, I pull out the list and select from it. It gets modified throughout the year, adding and omitting things, so it's usually pretty up-to-date. And it's such a hair saver when shopping for them!
