How do you get your child to exercise?

Do you just let them run around and play? Or do you watch an exercise tape together? Do you ride bikes together? Are they part of a program at school? (Ex: Dance, football, baseball, etc.)
Do they take karate? Gymnastics?
Etc., etc., etc.

Well they pretty much run around like wild indians all day in addition to any exercise they get at school or if we go to the park.

Also, they like to exercise with me in the evenings, which calms them down a bit and gets them ready for baths. Dollar Tree has these little padded 1 pound dumbbells for $1 each ... I'm going to pick up a couple of sets of them next time I'm out. Won't that be adorable?

I have this Yoga dvd that I take out when I remember and the other day when I got my flexibility mat from my Avon lady, Rach was like wow what is it?! I explained so she got my dvd out so we could "exercise". It was so hilarious, the kids were standing there on my mat just like the people on the video! BWAH!

Since they were old enough to go out side and run around (about 12 months old) I opened the door and let them go for it , they have had every bat and ball known to man as well as skate boards, bikes and scooter (and helmets).

As they got older they have played soccer, basketball, cricket and now Australian Football League (Rick).

He is constantly moving. Even when he's watching Tv, he's up and down and finding something to do. He loves to run and climb.

Just playing in the house or outside they get plenty of exercise. Plus some shows they watch get them going to the music. My kids are non-stop movement!

She's pretty much the same as the other kids. She loves going to the park and doing my tae bo kicks.

I just throw them out the door during the summer. While in school, they have PE twice a week.

That just sounds hilarious Dawn (and I can totally relate!)

We are fairly active as a whole family. We spend a lot of time outdoors, in the yard, biking, going to the park, etc. I talk all of my kids for walks and try and let them walk as much as possible (rather than putting them in the stroller). The kids run around in the yard most days when it's sunny. And when it's not, we're in the house, running around like little indians (as Dawn put it). I find that when we're cooped up in the house, we need to do a few extra "active" activities though, otherwise the kids just go nuts (and me too). We quite often do a "shake your sillies out" thing, where I'll get the kids to do what I do. I'll say "Okay everybody...I want you to jump up and down!" and then they'll do that for a minute. Then I'll get them to pat their head, rub their bellies, shake their arms, march around in a circle...stuff like that. Anything to release some of that energy.
