Anyone ever have to deal with a parent with Alzeihmers?

We think my dad might be in the early stages of Alzeihmers. He still drives but it makes us nervous. He has to go in for a drivers test and we hope they take his keys away from him. We won't let him drive on the highway anymore.

He has lost interest in things he use to be interested in. He gets grumpier more often. Sometimes he's in his own little world.

Has anyone had to deal with an older relative with Alzeihmers?

My grandfather had it, and it took over fast with him. It was not a slow process at all. My sister's FIL has it, and it was gradual, and so sad. He didn't start having mood swings really bad until later in the disease. He knows nothing now, not even his wife's name.
My FIL has diabetes and he experienced some of these same symptoms. Any chance of getting your dad to go in for a physical?

I told my Mom she really needs to tell his doctor about it so he can do a more thorough exam and see if that is what he really has. I think I'm going to talk to my siblings to see if they can talk her into talking to his doctor. I told her even if she could just call the dr just to talk it over with him that would be a start. She is so reluctant to tell him even though she is worried.

It is so hard to see my parents get older and see them not do the things they use to do.

I can only imagine how hard it is to see your parents like this. My dad died at 54 and my mom is now 62 and in remission from Stage IV oral cancer, so hopefully she will grow old. I know it cannot be easy going through this. Hopefully your parents can and will talk openly with your dad's doctor.

At the time Alzeihmers was not really thought of, Jimmy Gram had it we are sure of it. She use to even protect her trash because she thought it was her stuff (Value stuff) she did not remember.
I am sure it is very hard Cheryl.
