Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Are you taking your family to see this movie?

We'd really like to go. It's a classic Tim Burton film complete with whimsy. I would love to see it if the little one could behave in the theater. She's pretty engrossed by the trailers so that's a good sign.

I don't think we'll go, it doesn't look like it'd be very good to me.

I want to go just bc I love the original and think it would be neat to see this one.

I know Ryan would love it, he loves the original so I am pretty sure we will go and see it !! Its not my choice if I like it or not - but I think Johnny Depp is a great actor too so I am interested in seeing the updated twist to the movie too,

I want to see it and so does Alexander but we won't be taking him. From what I've read and heard about the movie, it's a lot darker and twisted than the original and simply not for his age group.

I also want to read the books since I've heard the original didn't really follow it but this version does.

Here's why it got it's PG rating -
Quote:
No real violence but scary moments or images. Among them: A flashback to a young Willy, whose dental braces look like an instrument of torture (there's even a knob on the back). Dolls catch on fire, and children touring Wonka's factory have various mishaps. A boy tumbles into a chocolate river, a girl balloons into a blueberry, another is dragged across the floor by squirrels, and a boy is miniaturized and stretched after a TV experiment goes awry. A boat and glass elevator also make for scary rides. - http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05196/538087.stm
Except for the braces, it sounds almost exactly like the "scary" scenes in the original movie. Kate has been going nutso everytime she sees the trailer for this movie. We'll see... She isn't afraid of Monkeybone which is pretty dang weird. It's one of her favorite movies. She liked Toy Story where the kid tortured toys. So maybe it won't bother her. It's odd what does bother her.

We just got back from the movie. It was awesome! Kate loved it. She didn't like the boring bits at the beginning and the end, but she loved the factory - especially the Ompaloompas. If Johnny Depp were any less of an actor, Deep Roy (he plays all the Ompaloompas) would have stolen the show. It is sooo funny! there are jokes you have to be over 30 to get though. There were parts where only Steve and I were laughing, because they referred to something from the 60s.

Kaylee has been wanting to see this, I think we are going to take her when it comes to the theater in town here.

Kate loved it so much, she sang the songs in her sleep.

I loved it!!!! Absolutely great!!! Much closer to the book that WWandtCF was.

Don't go expecting the original. Walk in with an open mind, especially if you haven't read the books.

I want to see it again!

Kate's still singing the songs constantly and every time she sees Johnny Depp, she gets the biggest smile on her face and says "Chocolatier". It's so cute! There's no comparison between this one and the original. Go ready to laugh, because you'll be laughing your hinney off at all Johnny Depp and Deep Roy's wise cracks.

Hmm I wasnt sure I wanted to see it cause the previews to me look creepy But your reviews make me wanna go. I think if we go I will go with out the girls cause Lys can't seem to sit through any movie.

I would love to go to it but we decided it was not one for our kids.
I did NOT want to go see it at all. I ended up taking Cori, Steph and Hailey tonight and LOVED it. It was so funny and very good. I was a little worried that some of it could be too creepy for Hailey but there was nothing at all that spooked her.
It is definatly one that I will buy when it comes out.
Go see it! It is great!
And I have a feeling I will be calling people weird a lot more now.

I want to see it. DH said he wanted to take Brandon but I said no. I heard it is not for his age at all. I will see it first and then see what I think. I don't even know if it would hold his interest anyway.

We've seen it twice and love it!! I really didn't think I was going to enjoy it .. but I did. Not too dark for Kale either! I mean heck HP is much darker!!

I haven't decided how I feel about it. I mean, it was good, and I'm sure if I had never seen the original, I would think it was great! I do like the fact that it explains a few things the first one left you wondering (like how he got so weird).

I loved Johnny Depp as well. I think I was just disappointed that the Oompa Loompa song wasn't in it!
