Do your kids brush their teeth? How often? Do you help them? Do they use flouride toothpaste?

Kyler had his 2nd appt with the dentist last night.

It's wasn't a "great" appt. He had alot of tarter built up. She told me that it's his chemical make up. That there isn't much we can do. HOWEVER, he has got to start getting more flouride and he has to brush his teeth better.

Kyler REFUSES to use flouride tooth paste. He still uses the stuff from when he was a baby. The kind with no flouride in it.
<sigh>

Darien and Jonas brush their teeth, but I always brush them after they get done. The first time I took Darien to the dentist he had cavities on his back molars. The dentist said he wasn't getting his back teeth good enough and that I should brush them also.

I try to make the boys brush atleast once a day (in the morning) and sometimes twice. (morning and night) Sometimes it's not even once a day. (The days we're running behind)

I started using kids flouride tootpaste (Crest Sparkle) about 6 months ago. Before that I was using the toddler toothpaste without flouride.

Christian & Kel brush their's in the morning and at night. Christian unfortunatly has no enamel on his teeth(Den and his brother didn't have enamel on their baby teeth either) so they often look dirty when they are clean. Kel's are pearly white shiny..LOL

We use the toddler kind but were thinking of switching to something else. Plus, we use Act for kids mouthwash rinse.

We have a chart that Christian has to mark off twice a day after we brush his teeth. That way he is learning he HAS to do it. I let them brush their teeth then either Den or I make sure we brush them after they are done.

Zach only has about 8 teeth (maybe more but unless you want to get chomped we stay out of there lately). We use the non-flouride gel and try to brush them b/f bed. We try to get in a few good swipes then let him do it. He will happily chew on the brush for 15 minutes. Hopefully it's doing something. We bought the soft silicone brushes from One Step Ahead. That way he can't gag himself. Good question! I was just going to ask about when you were supposed to switch to flouride?

For Kyler, have you tried a fun brush? I've seen electric race car ones. They have fun kids flouride flavors in the gorcery store. Maybe let him pick one of those out--bubble gum, orange, grape, etc.

Kimmy brushes twice a day...in the AM and PM. She uses Colgate Kids watermelon toothpaste and she loves it. She brushes by herself first then I usually go behind her and do it again.

Kyler has about 10 different tooth brushes. All ones he picked out. AND we have about 10 tooth pastes - all ones he picked out.
NOTHING seems to work.

Well, we are trying a new idea. The dentist told Kyler about that "icky bugs" that he has to brush off his teeth with the tooth brush. So... I'm telling him that the tooth paste with flouride is a special "weapon" to get them all. I'm not sure if this is going to work... but something has too!! I mean - he DOES brush. He just doesn't do it with the flouride tooth paste.

Have you tried using the Act Flouride mouth rise. Christian LOVES it and does really good at rinsing and spitting.

I've never tried that. But I'll look into it the next time I"m at the store. If they swallow it, is it ok?

Jonathan loves his toothbrush. He loves to chew on them. And we're working on getting him to make circles on his teeth. But he HATES toothpaste. I've bought several different kinds and as soon as he sees it, he screams. I really don't know what to do. I think it has something to do with the texture of the toothpaste and the fact that texture is one thing that sets PPD kids off.

I like to think we get Ryans teeth done as often as we should - he has been to the dentist twice already for check ups, and he has another appt in October. They actually told me I should floss his teeth (just to get him in the habit) his teeth arent that close together that we need it, but to start the behavior early.

Ryan has 4 toothbrushes, 2 electric and 2 regular. We also use the 'get the monsters out' , or i can see your sandwhich in there let me get it etc - Ryan does good, we brush our teeth at the same time, he likes to do it at the same time as me, then I go in and get the rest - I do not use flouride toothpaste either yet though.

Alot though, we brush Ryans teeth, then he gets ready for bed and has OJ or something to eat, so I think we blow it there - but to our surprise the dentist said his teeth looked great when we went in April, even with sucking his thumb everything looked good all around.

Sometimes what helps too is to tell him his teeth are dirty and smell - I know they dont really have bad breath, but Ryan can certainly point out when me or Scott do, so if we tell him his is bad too it helps
