Questionable thought I saw...

I was doing the research on this kids doing chores theory and came across one that said that 9-10 year olds should be able to do chores with out a reminder.

I know my opinion on this but I know my household.

What do you think about 9-10 year olds doing chores with out reminders?

I think so!!! We have a chart posted in the kitchen and if I have to remind you .. you don't get paid for it!

Hmmm... I don't know about all 9 year olds but Haley can't remember to do her homework, grab her lunch money, or even brush her hair without a reminder or two and those are things she has been doing every day for years.

Well shoot my own opinion is how many times do I ask DH to take out the garbage let alone a 9=10 year old remember chores...

But if you are paying them ... trust me, money is a great butt buster

This goes back to my DA theory .. we are all born with the DumbA$$ disease. It is up to our mother's to cure us of this disease. Almost all females are cured by adulthood. Hardly ANY males are cured .. although Mom's try. So men are just ate up with the DA disease. AND .. if they stand close to anybody that is infected ... it jumps like lice .. they can get it worse!! So ... we can cure our children, but there is no hope for the men in our lives

I think it's possible. It's a matter of motivation.

It's possible, but I wouldn't set my heart on it. Heck, I need reminding every now and then.

Wishful thinking in my house ...

Having a chart helps. When I had my chart up(need to put it back up, I decided to change the chores I had on there) the boys would come home from school, do homework and get right to their chores. If they didn't have homework then they started on the chores. They knew they had to to do them to get TV, video games, etc.

I was thinking along the same lines, Jannie!

Ok I think as far as kids go....repetition is the key. I have been working with the "big" kids to take their plates to the kitchen when they are done and we are now up to 75% of the time. So I think if they are used to always doing something then by the time they are 9 they will automatically do it...does that make sense?

If you have a chart they just learn to look at it and do it.
