At what age would you consider letting your child...

... ride a motorcycle? A street bike - not a dirt bike.

Would it matter if they were riding by themselves? With a family member? With a friend?

Oh good question!! I freaked when Kirstie-Raie rode one at 14 with a friend of ours ... I think 30 is a good age

I agree with Roxanna - 30 is a good age. But it was taken out of my hands so I couldn't do anything about it. My ex has a motorcycle and he has been riding my 15 yo son on it for a couple of years now. I absolutely hate it but there is nothing I can do except pray. And my son loves it, which totally sucks.

Any kids that are in my home will have to wait until they are on their own before they can ride a motorcycle.

Uh, NEVER. I'm totally serious. And you know, I like motorcycles. The enjoyment does not outweigh the risks IMO. If it is a case of a ds or dd wanting to go on with a parent I'd still say no. 16 or older, I'd consider it but my gut tell me no.

My father has always had motorcycles and since the day Zachariah was born he has been telling us he has a "bad" feeling when he thinks about bikes and Zach. We are going to try to keep Zach away for as long as we can. My dad NEVER says stuff like that so it especially bothers me.

My gut reactions is never too.

We went to a family reunion yesterday and my niece (15 yr old) showed up on the back of a Harley with her Uncle. I didn't say anything, but I was so shocked!! I couldn't believe it. The reunion was also an hour dr ON THE HIGHWAY!!!

I couldn't believe it.

And... DH and I argued about it. He said "I've seen kids younger on bikes." Ok - THAT wasn't my point. I wanted to know how he felt about it. He thought it was fine.

For a minute I thought you were thinking of letting Kyler take a spin... hehehe. I went on with my dad when I was much younger than 15. But times are different now--there are MANY more cars on the road. Think about it. Everyone has at least 2 cars now.

I think around 18. They have to go and take the test for their motorcycle license, so I know they would be taught properly how to ride one. Rich has his license, and got his around 18. So I dont have a problem with it. And I have no problem letting them ride with a responsible person.

Never!!!! Taylor loves motorcylces. So I am sure one day he will ride one. My ex bought him a dirt bike which I was not thrilled over. But Taylor has been very careful on it and always wears his helmet.

If they are with Mike I don't care. Otherwise never, lol.

Motorcycles scare me... I would have to say that they would have to be around 15/16 before riding
post #11 of 14
Are they Riding or Driving? JMO! Since DH has one I would have to say prolly about 15, or at least that is when I will allow my daughters to go on. I have riden several times with DH and I say 15 is a good age because at that age, your arms are strong enough to hold on for dear like, as I do when I go with dh! Riding 15, Driving I think 21 is a good age

I wouldnt let them be a passenger now though, i forgot to put that in my reply.

I'm terrified of motorcycles, I won't even let Daniel get one, so Nicole won't be riding one until she's an adult!
