Take 10 minutes before you go to bed and the comforting smells of apple-cinnamon oatmeal in the morning will get everyone to the table and out the door in record time.
2 cups milk
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon melted butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup regular oats
1 cup peeled, chopped apple
1/2 cup chopped dates or raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Spray the inside of a 3- to 4-quart (see note below) slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Combine all ingredients in the slow cooker and mix well. Cover and turn cooker to "low" setting. Cook overnight, or 8 to 9 hours. Stir well before serving.
NOTE: If your cooker is larger than 3 to 4 quarts, double this recipe; size matters when it comes to slow cooking. The ingredients should fill the cooker at least halfway, but no more than two-thirds.
