Leah started one last year and I think Elaine looked into it too - Might want to talk to them. They may be able to head you into the right direction
Good Luck!

Hi -
I'm new to this site - but I wanted to put my 2 cents in.
I run a daycare in my home. It's a lot of work but it does help with bills. Every state is different. You do need to look and research this. I do not live in your state but in my state, if you're unregistered you are only allowed 2 children other than your own. If you registered you can have up to 8 but this includes counting your own. If a child turns 13 - you no longer count them - and you can't legally watch them. You don't need cpr/first aid. It does help. I'm registered - and there's a program (I think federal) that will re-imburse me for every snack/meal I serve - up to 3 per child per day - some months I can make as much as 100.00 - just from this alone. Also, you can write-off a percentage of your mortgage, utilities, household improvements (roof, well, additions, furnishings etc... - as long as the children will benefit from this), taxes etc... It was tough to weigh what to do. I'm only registered because we need more money that what 2 kids will bring in - plus I live in a very rural area which doesn't allow for me to have 2 full time kids but I do have 8 part-timers. I only want to stay home until my youngest starts school and then I'll either just stayhome (if it's affordable) or work parttime while they are at school. But that's 6 years away (since I just had another baby in may). The toughest part (for me) was becoming registered - is all the formalities and inspections. But it does allow for all the write-offs -
I don't know if I've actually helped you - but good luck. I do enjoy it - some days more than most.
