The facts of life

How do you explain to your children that some animals eat other animals and people eat animals too? I know it's sad that some animals die so others can live, but it is the natural way of things. No amount of being upset about it is going to change things. My dd likes mice and birds. And you know we have a cat. So how do we explain to her it's only natural for people to eat chicken and cats to eat mice?

We just told Ally that that is way way things are. Used a ladder as an example of the food chain - kept ti simple. She seemed to be alright with it. We've been discussing it alot since we got the fishtank and we've had to replace a few already.

i don't know.
I've never had to explain it to Kyler before. I'm not sure what I would say if he asked me.

In the Lion King Mufasa explains to Simba all about the "Great circle of life"

How the deer eat the grass, the lions eat the deer and when the lions die the grass uses their bodys to grow.

Having a song about "The circle of life" doesn't hurt to help get the message across either.

I think that's probably to complicated for her age. I would just respond to any questions she has with simple answers, and move on like it's no big deal.
