Pain meds or not?

Did you have an epidural when you had your kid(s)? If not, was that by choice?
If you went natural, did you have ANY pain meds at all?

If you did the med-free delivery, You are a better woman than I!
As soon as I got to the hospital, I asked for my epidural. I got it about 11 hours after I went into labor!

I went into it thinking I was going to go pain free. However, after 6 hours, I was begging for the epidural.
For baby number 2... as soon as I got to the hospital I was asking for it!

I had dimeral with Kirstie-Raie and nothing with the other two ... NOTHING.
Epidural, for sure! Will have one with baby #2 as well!
Yes of course! Although with Ethan it was nearly worn off by the time I was ready to push.

Jessi - no epi (not for lack of my begging though!), 1 shot of demerol

Cody - epidural

TJ - planned c-section (spinal block)

I had an epidural with all three kids because I had C-sections.

I did have an epidural, but I didn't ask for it...they mentioned it when they saw I was at the end of my rope...I said sure...why not?

But that was the best choice because later I had a c-section...so I got to stay awake.

Nubane with Austin which worked for a little bit..

Nothing but Phenergan with Dylan because I was so sick to my stomach.

Drug Free! I don't want needles!

OH YEAH!!

I had an epidural for Brandon and a spinal for Justin.

Epidural!!
no epideral. I have some sort of IV drip with Lyssa and with Kate I just got some iv in my hand but I wasn't tied down to anything.

No epidurals for me with Breeze, Skye or Aiden.
I had it too late with jessica (20 minutes before she was born) and it didn't take because she missed the spot because I have scoliosis and I started pushing when she went for her second try.

With Aiden I wanted one, but by the time I got to 3cm's dilated, it took 6 minutes to get to fully, so there was no-way I was going to get one

If given the option....SHOW ME THE DRUGS. God invented them, use them

I went natural. No meds.

When I had my first back in the dark ages, they didn't offer epidurals during labor at my hospital. I had demerol. If it worked, then I hate to think how bad it would've been without it.

With baby #2, the guy hit a nerve when trying to give me the epidural. It was horrible. Then, the damn epidural ended up not working.

Baby #3 was a planned c-section, so I was numb.

I didn't have any choice but to have it natural. They tried the epidural but it didn't take. I was given morphine but that lasted only two hours. I gave birth and it had already worn off 4 hours before that. It was hell. If I could've had morphine the whole time I would've had fun!

I had a home birth with Colton, so nothing at all. I will do it again as long as I am able. I was very comfortable at home.
nothing with all four...
If I had my choice I would have had nothing. But as I had 3 c-sections...2 epidurals and 1 spinal.
no epidurals... too scared of the NEEDLE!!! I had something to help me rest in between contractions with jacob .. and I had some sort of IV with Nathan
post #23 of 30
I had nothing during labor and delivery for rhyne (not my choice, they said that I would've needed a c-section if I would have gotten one cause I would have stopped progressing ) With braylen I made SURE I got an epidural at 4 cm!!!!

After I gave birth to rhyne they did give me something and it knocked me out.

i had two epidurals and a spinal block...

I had the drugs. I went in the night before and was given potocin and given a pain shot. Then the next day as we got closer had the epidural. Ended up with a c-section so I had the drugs anyway.

With Justin, we were a planned c-section, so I had the spinal.

With my son, I would have probably gone totally natural *if* the nurses quit making me lay in bed for routine monitoring. As long as I could stand, squat, move, and sway...or be in the jetted tub, I could cope. I had back labor, and being in bed made me feel really panicky. That, and the room was COLD and made my cramps worse. We tried to turn the heat up all day, but it never worked. I spent most of my labor in the bathroom. I ended up with an epidural at 8+ centimeters, purely because I was exausted and couldn't stand laboring in bed.

I can't believe they wouldn't let you move around. That's horrible. I think I would have punched someone.

I had natural with both because that's how I wanted it. They were both waterbabies. Loved the water!! Hate needles, (plus I have heard to many bad things about epidurals, to scary to mess around with) so anymore I have will be completely drugfree and in water if I can help it. Heck I would even have them at home if I wouldn't hemmorage afterwards.

I spent most of my labor in the bathroom, especially because there was a problem with the heat in our room and it seemed really cold to me. Everytime I left the steamy bathroom, the cramps got worse. But I was allowed to move around for most of my labor, it was just that the nurses kept wanting me to get back in bed so they could get the 20 minute monitoring strip per hour that hospital policy dictated. Fortunately, my midwife did intermittant monitoring, but it seems the longer I labored the more insistant the nurses got. I would have preferred not be in the bed at all...I just couldn't cope with the pain there.

I loved the water too.

I had an epidural with Brianna. The twins were a planned c-section since Kaitlyn was a breech baby so I had a spinal block with them.
with Hannah I had an unwanted c-section so I had a spinal ended up with a mouthful of vomit and the only one who noticed was my husband!
Bethanne I was induced, went 11 to 12 hours without, got an epidural they had to do it four times.
This baby praying not to be induced and also no drugs.
