Want to start working at home - but too afraid

Thread Starter
Hi!
Currently I have a great job. Not such a good salary, but good position, great people to work with, but no promotion options since I work 2 hours less than others.
My job is far – more than a hours drive from home (back and force), so recently I think of starting working from home.
I don't know what options are there for working at home. Can any of you working moms advice me…

I know Anastasia has a good advice for WAHM jobs but she is busy but pops in when she can and our other wahm is Kate and she is offline currently but we hope she hurries back! I hope one of them can pop in and offer you some advice.

They also have some great posts in this forum. You may just have to search back a bit.

First of all what is it that you currently do?

Do you have a favorite hobby that you might be able to sell online or offline in your area?

Is there a direct sales company that you would love to work with?

The most important thing to do is not quit your job till you are ready and able to support yourself with your home based business, I can tell you from much experience that it can take several months to build a business and make a profit but once you do it is so well worth it I have been doing my own businesses plus selling AVON now for almost 3 years and well I love it alot.

I did however due to personal circumstances had to cut back on some things but guess what it so frees me up now to be here again like i used to

I can help with some advice but I need to know a little more about you and what you like to do etc

I will check in later got to get the kids ready for trick or treating! But will check in later tonight before I go to bed.

Advice From A Work At Home Mom

I am a work at home mom and have been for five years. I worked at a nine to five until the day I went into labor with my daughter and never looked back. After about two years of being a full time mommy, I got a little bored and starting selling gift baskets to real estate agents in my area. After that, a joined forces with another work at home mom and opened up an online baby boutique. When you ask anyone about working at home, they always tell you to be aware of failing. My advice is be aware of succeeding!! My online store has now become a more than full time job for both of us as well as two other employees. We begun this business to stay at home with our kids but now are struggling to be able to spend enough time with them. Both of my children are off track right now and it has been really hard to work and be with them. So before you consider working from home consider the possibilities of failing but also what will you do if you succeeded! Just a little advice. By the way, I am new here and really enjoyed viewing all of your posts.

Re: Want to start working at home - but too afraid

Not sure what field you're in. I'm a seamstress and I do work from my own home. What I suggest is you open the yellow pages upto the area you're looking for and call companies. The absolute worst thing possible is you'll get no responce. This is how I got my sewing job I currently sew at home "in my jammies" !! Also, try looking online at your local employment agency so see if you can find any leads there. Just because the newspaper ad or online ad says "hiring" doesn't mean they're looking to hire someone to ONLY work in their office. Give it a try. Just a dozen or so calls a day, don't give up. There are family friendly companies out there.
Good luck mom

Re: Want to start working at home - but too afraid

Hi,

I'm also a WAHM! lol - I like the acronym. It isn't easy that's for sure. But be positive, that is key. I feel that understanding why you want to work at home is key. In my opinion, avoiding the commute isn't good enuf.. by that I mean, you have to really be motivated to work at home and earn income for yourself on your own.
I started a business 6 months ago & I work at home. I was working my day job until my business got off the ground and I was able to make sales. So remember to be cautious and be prudent, especially in today's times.
There are many work at home options, some are good, some are bad. Be careful from the spam and junk on the internet. For example - you can take paid surveys from your computer at home. This is just an example. I've tried a lot of different things and didn't like this one. You could also start your own company.. maybe that is what u want? or u want to work at home? it depends. if you want to work at home, start a website, maybe learn how to trade forex? - although, that isn't easy and is very risky.. umm.. other options..? data entry?

Does this help?
