Would you find it strange if....

you went to your cousins baby shower and she told everyone that she was planning to name her daughter the same name as your daughters name?

My sister went to my cousins baby shower and that's exactly what happened. She announced that she would be naming her daughter Alyssa. (My niece's name is Alissa)

My sister was thinking what? Are you kidding?

My cousin looks at my sister and says "We're planning to spell it Alyssa not Alissa (my nieces spelling) so the names will be different.

What? There still pronounced the same. Duh!

Needless to say my sister is a bit annoyed!

i would be a little bit upset,

but it would be different if it is a child that you will never see....

like one of my 24 neices and nephews

I would be annoyed especially if it was a really uncommen name or a made up name that was honouring family members or something. One of my girlfriends I go to playgroup with is pregnant and was thinking of naming her baby Hayley if its a girl (my bubba's name is Hayley if you don't already know) I mean, I know Hayley is a pretty commen name but I'm sure there are millions of others out there. As for the spelling of Alyssa and Alissa its still pronounced the same, just like Hayley or Hailey etc.

HAHAHA....Shawn's cousin Kandace's son is Jakob and mine is Jacob.Her Jake was born July 4, and mine October 4. When Josh chose Jake I didn't know she was naming hers Jake but since it was the only name we could all agree on(and the fact that Josh picked it) I wasn't finding something else. I don't mind and I don't think she does....and the boys think it is awesome that they have the same name!
It would have been differant if it was a very original name though, I think. But common names...well all I can say is get used to it.

Ironically when Kandace had her daughter Kaycie I had to laugh because one of the names I had considered for my son Jesse if he had been a girl was Kaicyn and her nickname would have been Kaicie....lol.

It would tick me off and I'd say something!!

Kale's cousin is 5 weeks younger than him and her name is KALEigh .. still pisses me off!

Depends on how close they are I guess. Unfortunatly noone has rights to a name. It's one of those crummy things about semi-common or common names. It would only piss me off if I was going to see them alot. It's why I don't give out the names we like. I don't want to think someone "stole" them.

My dd is Caitlyn and my sister's dd is Katherine. They're both called Kate. I just chalk it up to both of us liking our great grandmother who was a Kate.

It would depend on how often I would see that cousin. One of my cousins has a daugther named Victoria, and I really thought about using that name with Emily. I would have called her Tori. I don't think it would have been a big deal because we hardly see each other. I haven't seen her or her kids in well over a year. Plus, if I really liked the name, I would use it. It's not like she owns it, but I am not close to that side of my family, either.

I would be annoyed but I agree with some of the other ladies - it would depend on how often I saw these people and how close I was with them. If I hardly ever see them - then whoopie doo. But if I see them regularly then I guess I would hope that those people would know my children's names and try not to use the same name.
