Cutting off the crusts

do you cut off the crusts for your child?

I'm starting too. I'm tired of picking them up after. might as well do it before it becomes a mess.
Yeah, I do. I found they wasted more than they ate if it was left for them to do on their own.
i haven't started yet, but i could see the waste factor being a reason to start

It is. she won't even eat close to the crust. When I cut it off, I cut off only the barest edge.

Yeah I cut it off for Morgan cause I found he was wasting too much. I find it only takes me a min. and everyone is happy/

Nope. Dh convinced Ds that the crust was Daddy's favorite part, so instead of having to share them, he eats them !

nope - I went and bought the crustless bread (at like $3 a loaf It didnt matter - she didnt eat close to the edge at all. SO now i just buy cheap bread and she eats up ot the crust and stops. But she knows to clean up after herself.

Yep I did, couldn't be bothered with all the hassle, it takes 30 seconds to cut the crusts off and the meal isn't a battle zone, win/win situation.

When they got to around 2.5-3 years old I started leaving them on but I also started cutting the sandwich into 4 triangles NOT 4 squares, that leaves only one edge of crust on each sandwich not two and it is easier for them to eat closer to the crusts as well.

i'm cutting the sandwich in triangles already it works wonders

Sometimes I do, but Hayley has gotten more teeth so now I have started to leave the crust on, she will only have toasted sandwiches, won't eat bread unless its broken up into small pieces and fed to her.

I'd forgotten all about the 'toast' thing

One of my gf's has 5 kids and not one of them would eat bread, but they were perfectly happy to eat toast even cold toast, and lets face it toast is crunchy so you don't need to be cutting crusts off toast. that avoids the problem all together

If I don't Brandon gets mad, if I do, then he likes the crust and wants it back. I can never win. I have to ask each and every time!
Nope. I never let it become a choice and everyone eats it. In fact, we have two kids that'll fight over who gets the heels in the loaf!!
The heel is the best part!

I don't cut off crusts, mostly because I always toast the bread. For Thanksgiving in Kindergarten, they did a little buffet, and I made little turkey finger sandwiches - for those, I cut off the crusts, because I didn't toast the bread. Then I put the cut-off crusts in the oven for a bit to dry them, and made breadcrumbs.

DH tries to make the kids eat the crusts so they don't waste food but I don't make them because I don't eat it myself. I leave it on unless they ask though because sometimes they'll eat it and sometimes they won't.

That's a great idea, Judy!

I've just started too as well.
I do, too. I figure she doesn't like it, so why make her eat it.

I figured that one out a few years back with Maddie and her Grilled cheese. She eats right to the edge and she has gotten really good and picking up after herself.
