I have been on the phone, literally since I got out of bed. I called the first surgeon, and was told he was going to be on vaction for two weeks. The dr. covering for him couldn't see my mom til next week, which means: b/c it's Thanksgiving week, no biopsy for at least a week or two later. That won't work. Time is everything when dealing with cancer. I need the ball to get rolling fast. I would like her to have a biopsy the week of Thanksgiving or at the very least at the beginning of the week after Thanksgiving.
So, NOT being very patient yet being VERY resourceful, I called the back office number to my mom's ENT's office and spoke to her original ENT's former assistant, who is now the nurse manager or something like that. (See the ENT who diagnosed Mom's oral cancer is Dr. Weiss, but he changed offices, so now we use Dr. An. BUT we were very close to Dr. Weiss, and to his assistant Sherry. So, I called her.
) She helped me out, or at least tried to. She called the first surgeon's office and did her best to get us in, but they are shorthanded with several doctors on vacation. So, Sherry called me back and we decided I would call the second surgeon.
I did, and the ladies in his office could not have been nicer and more helpful, which was so good. So, my mom is going to see the surgeon on Wednesday. This surgeon works at St. Joseph's hospital, which is a great hospital--my grandfather had bypass surgery there years ago, and my granny had surgery there (at 87 years old!).
