potty mouth

OK, Shawn has found a new favorite word(s) - poop, poopy. Literally every other word out of his mouth is poop or poopy. Example

Shawn - " I poop need poop poop to put my poop in my poop poop."
Translation - " I need to put my coat in my room."

It's driving me crazy, and we can't get him to stop. Someone told to just ignore and he'll stop cuz getting no reaction would take the fun out of it. So for the first two weeks, I ignored it. Didn't work, mostly cuz he does it at school also and of course the other kids find it funny, so he still gets attention for it from someone. My aunt dsays soap in his mouth when he does it, but it just seems so mean - I don't think I could actually do something like that. My mom says smack his mouth when he does it, but since he does it constantly......... . My dad says I should put a dab of hot sauce on his tongue when he says it, but hot sauce is extremely painful to me on rare occasion I taste it - I imagine it would kinda hurt him too. I'm tellin ya, if I have to hear the word poop too many more times I'll need a

Logan did that at daycare so they would give him a time out in the potty But now at 4 his potty mouth has turned into a truckers mouth and I wish it would go back to a potty mouth. Shawn will outgrow it.

I think he'll grow out of it. His friends probably think it's hysterical and are encouraging him.

Yeah, my boys didn't outgrow it. They still think that words like poop and butt are hilarious. What worked for me was time outs in the bathroom (what I told them was if they were going to talk poopy talk then they should be in the appropriate room for it!LOL!) when that stopped working then we used soap. Soft Soap. I dab will do ya! It worked for the most part. They still will talk silly from time to time but at least it stopped the constant poop this poop that you poopy face poo-poo! Good luck to you!

My DS hasn't started this yet but I'm sure it won't be long. After all, boys will be boys.

How old is he? I don't think soap, or hot sauce is appropriate punishment for a toddler. I would ignore it, and if he talks to you and includes the word then don't don't speak to him. If he gets upset then tell him you can't talk to him when he says yucky words.

I figured it was a boy thing. Gavin went through a phase where it was all poop. Poop poop poop poop. It is still fun to use on occasion along with Booger, fart and other gross words... LOL. I tell him that we only use it in reference to going to the bathroom and that is the only time we need to talk about it. If he feels the need to say it he can go to his room.

I think they like to say it to see what our reaction is.
