Feeling a little better

We went and did my mom's pre op stuff today. We got there at 1:30, after driving an hour and a half in the pouring down rain and traffic! We left the hospital at 5:30! I didn't get home until 7:30 because we had to go through downtown Atlanta in rush hour traffic and pouring rain. What a mess it was!
This morning while I was on the way to my mom's, I called one of her sister's. Y'all just don't know what it took for me to do that. When my dad died, it was very ugly with them, and the day of his funeral, I told every one of my mom's sisters off. I mean, it was the tell it like it is, no holds barred, in your face kind of telling someone off. Ever since then, I have had little use for any of them. Then last year when my mom was diagnosed with cancer, my sister and I both tried to reason with them, and they were just @sses about it all. For a while they would call my house, and after they called and called and I never would talk to them, I think they got the hint. So, last week I asked my mom if she had told any of her sisters about the upcoming surgery, etc, and she didn't give me a straight answer. So, after thinking it over, I decided I needed to call them. The way I see it, if I didn't call them, and they did nothing, then it would be on my conscience. BUT if I did call them and they did nothing, then it was on them. So, I called my Aunt Betty today. She was pretty cavalier about everything. She, like all of my mom's sisters, is just totally self-centered. Anyway, she acted as if she already knew everything I was telling her. She never once offered help or support of any kind or even acted like she would come to visit mom in the hospital. Not surprising at all.
Well, tonight I came home and saw that there was a message on our voice mail. I checked it, and it is my Aunt Renee (my mom's brother's wife). She left me her home number, her work number, and her cell number. I called her and she was in a meeting, so she called me back. We talked for a good bit. She and I see eye to eye regarding my mom's sisters and how uncaring they are. Renee was very supportive and sincere. She also told me that my mom told my Aunt Betty that the growth was not cancerous but was caused by her sinus problems. Renee said she told Betty that sounded pretty crazy to her, but Betty insisted it was true and entirely possible. Those people up there are so and hillbilly backwoods that I think that they did believe it, and God bless Renee for having better sense and calling information and getting my number and calling me.
So, I feel better knowing that she cared enough about us to go to all that trouble just to check on us and try to help. It's nice feeling like there is someone out there in our family who really is concerned.

I hope that hospital is where the Bob Evans is. Then at least you can get some good food while you're there.

I wish! I don't think there is a Bob Evans close by. The Bob Evans we ate at was in Tennessee.
