backtalk

How old was your child when they started "sassing", as my family used to call it, you? My dd is starting to backtalk to me. She's starting to Shush me when I ask her to do things. At first, it just floored me that she was telling me to shush. I try to address her in the way I would like to be addressed, but lately, I've been threatening to take away her favorite toy horse and telling her not to backtalk to me. It seems to be working. I can't believe she's already backtalking. I know kids backtalk, but she's still a baby.

It was cute at first, but now I'm trying to talk to her and she's saying Shh! to me. I can see why kids don't like that when grown ups do that. I don't care for it much either. Dh does that to her and now she does it to me.

you have to listen and not ignore, but instead of shhhing, maybe Steve should say, hold on a min while I finish what i'm doing...I dunno, I'm a failure when it comes to the parenting thing

Hmmm...Gavin was probably around 3 or so. Abby is doing it already and she will hold her finger up to her mouth and say...shhhhhh be quiet. It is annoying but a lot of it is just a mini experiment to see what happens when they try and take control of their world.
