Newborn head injury?

Thread Starter
I have been gone from the boards for a LONG time but needed help so I knew where to turn. We've added another girl to our family since I've been away. Madison Lee-Anne was born November 8th and is very healthy. Last night I fell asleep in bed with her on my chest. Some time during the middle of the night she feel off my chest and onto the wood floor. Mt guilt is the least of my worries at this point. She is acting normal and has no bruising on her head. Due to the fact that she is only 7 weeks old should I take her to the doctor or the er just to be on the safe side? Has this happened to anyone else? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Both of mine had rolled off the bed at some point, and both were fine. I would call the doctor just to let them know and they can give you signs of what to look for in case there is a problem. They are alot more resilent than we think!

Oh honey, don't beat yourself up about it. My husband fell asleep with my then preemie daughter on his chest (she was only around 2 weeks old) in the recliner and she rolled right off and hit the baseboard heater and then the floor. I was petrified but their wasn't even a red mark on her! She seemed fine and I was too paranoid that they would take her away from us if we went to the hospital. I am sure it happens all the time.
And to make you feel even better hearing my horrifying tales I will also tell you that not only with Emily but also with Payton I have ran their heads into the door frame in the middle of the night because I was half asleep trying to bring them in to change their diapers. I remember crying harder then they were. Now it kinda makes me laugh though because that is just horrible that I did that not only with one child but with TWO!
I am sure that Madison is just fine. Post some pictures of your sweet lil girl!

I'm sure she's just fine, hon! You can always look for swelling of her soft spot, I was told that's an indicator that you would need to take her in...but honestly I wouldn't worry...Issac used to roll off our bed all the time!

If she is acting normal then I wouldn't worry about it. If she starts acting different then call the doctor.

1st - congrats on your new addition!

2nd- I would just watch her carefully, if she acts funny at all you can call the dr - to be honest, I would prob call and tell them what happened -and tell them she is acting fine - but you just wanted to check in, they may want to see her- or they may just tell you what warning signs to look out for

That happened to us too. I didn't realize dd could move around so well until it happened.

If she's acting fine, I wouldn't worry about it too much. This has pretty much happened to everyone at some point. If her behaviors change, consult your Pediatrician.

Hey Krista, quit beating your kids up

I hit jessica's head into a dorr frame when she was a week old. She was fine
I accidently smashed Skye into her cot side when I was transferring her from my bed into her when I was so alseep, my eyes were just squinting. She was fine, but it sure woke me up
I nearly did it to Aiden too when he was 5 weeks old, but opened my eyes at just the right moment.

I think it's because babies are so floppy and relaxed which stops alot of injuries.

Can't wait to see some pics of Madison
